URGGGGGGG!!!! Last night I assume Charlie was out eating dog poo because right after he came back inside he jumped up on my lap and threw up poo on to my brand new shirt!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHH!!!! Luckily I hurried and threw my shirt into the washer and its fine. But that was the most disgusting thing ever! How can I get him to stop eating poop!
Oh and on another note Charlie will be getting Neutered on May 18th. I have a feeling he is going to be a very big DRAMA King! |

My bro-in-law has a GSD that used to eat her own poo, and they asked the vet how to make her stop doing it. The vet said "Pick it up out of the yard. If she cant find it, she cant eat it". Other than that, I dont have any suggestions. But eeeewwwww! |

| There is some stuff at the petstore that is little tablets that all the dogs eat that will make them not eat eachother or there own poo. I guess it makes it taste even more gross than it already is. |

| I don't think anyone knows exactly why some dogs eat poop but the answer that made the most sense to me was that the poop had a lot of grains(undigested) in it. They said if you feed grain free food, or food with more digestable grains(not corn),then they won't eat their poop.
Sounded good to me. Fortunately, I've never had to deal with it. |

| I think he is eating the pretty much fresh stuff because my boyfirends dad is really good about cleaning up the poop. The other day I wnet out side to check on him and I found him in a corner nawing on a big piece! He was in big trouble and I had to wash out his mouth. I guess I will just have to keep a better eye on him when he goes outside. |

| My old Lab, Bonnie, used to eat her on poop -- even on high quality, highly digestable dog food. There are tablets or powder that is supposed to make the poop taste bad and stop them eating it, but it never worked for me. I have asked my vets now and previous ones, and have never gotten a solution -- other than the one Paul offered. Keeping it picked up -- which is a chore to do all the time. I just finally made sure she didn't kiss me in the mouth right after returning inside. Yuck! |

The comedian Bill Engvall says that his dog eats his own poop and which makes him the perfect dog who cleans up after himself. He thinks it's funny when the dog then licks his wife's face, because she doesn't know he just ate poop. |

| Lets go back to the evolution of the dog 101. Dogs started as scavengers, they eat anything and everything cause its that or die. As people took dogs in, they didn't have to eat as much nasty stuff. Like poop. However the desire to eat poop is still in them. It has never been bred out and probably will never be. I love my dogs anyway. I know that given the opportunity they will eat any kind of poop they can get. LOL |

Batman and Blondie have never tried to eat their poo or poo in the yard - but they had a thing for the cat box. Our cat is now in a home with just cats and living it up - so we don't have to worry about that anymore. But - Batman still tried to "drink" Blondie's pee if I'm not watching him careful - that's pretty gross too.

Toby did this as a puppy and the vet told us to nip it in the bud immediately. It is called Coprophagia.
Here is what was in the hand-out we were given at the time:
"Common reasons behind coprophagia are dietary imbalance, deficiency, food intolerance or allergy. If your puppy eats food containing ingredients it is allergic or intolerant to, or more food than it can digest, your puppy may not be getting the nutrition it needs, even though eating seemingly well. If food is not digested or absorbed properly, the resulting stool is largely undigested which can make it tempting.
If your dog has a problem with coprophagia, the first step, after a Vet check, is to eliminate the most common problem ingredients from the dog food, which are over-processed wheat, corn and soy. Improving the diet with high quality digestible foods and reducing rich extras can be enough to make a dramatic difference. Adding a digestive enzyme can help your dog process its food better. Some dog owners have found good success by simply adding Apple Cider Vinegar, Spinach, zucchini, green beans or pineapple to the diet or by using commercial deterrents like "Deter" or "Forbid".
Ideally, take your puppy out on a leash each time he goes out to eliminate. After eliminating, call your puppy to you promptly and do not even give him a chance to sniff the droppings. Of course, it will also help tremendously to keep your yard as clean as possible so stool eating never becomes a habit to begin with."
Here are some links to the top three Coprophagia deterrents.

DETER http://www.cjshopping-network.com/Pet-Medications/Deter-Dog-Corprohagia-Treatment-60-Tab-Bottle-.html
We gave Toby Deter and in two days he stopped. We had to follow through with the treatment for 4 weeks and he has never eaten poo since!
