This friday we are having Sadie spayed. As I have never owned a female dog before, I was just wondering if anyone had any advice, or what I can expect when she gets home. We are actually going to be out of town so she will be with my aunt and mom for the weekend. To some extent this worries me because I won't be around if she needs me for something. At the same time the fact that she will be with my mom is comforting because my mom knows what to do. Is there anything specific I should make sure my aunt and mom have for her, or anything we need to do for her. Please help me out, i'm so clueless about this. Growing up we always had male dogs, and they hardly notice when they are neutered.

I hope someone else can answer, but if my memory serves me, they are tired after the procedure, and may not eat as much, but they should be ok by the following day. She will probably sleep much of the day she comes home, unless they keep her over night.

But, maybe someone else can verify that I'm right. I'm sure everything will be ok

Daisy had a really easy time after her spay surgery. She was kept overnight at the vet's and was a little tired when she came home, but she didn't mess with the stitches - and she got the dissolvable kind so she didn't need to return. The hardest thing was trying to keep her from jumping and turboing around like she was used to, but still it didn't seem to bother her to do these things.

Bailey did good after her spay. She spent the night and acted pretty much the same except she couldn't jump up on the bed. She licked on her stitches too much and I didn't stop her because I thought it was Ok. She did fine though.

Julia just got spayed one month ago... she spent the night at the vets and when she came home the next day was a little tired. She did just fine though...after a day or two she was herself again, playing and running with Caesar all over the house. She didn't mess with her stitches either, which I was a little worried about that. I was the one who was a mess...LOL. I must of cried 4 times while she was gone all day and overnight. Sadie will do just fine. We'll be thinking of her.

Mayfly got spayed a few months ago. I was able to pick her up the same day as her spay, later in the afternoon. She was kind of out of it (from anesthesia) the rest of that day but by the next day was just fine. Of course she was sore and I tried to keep her quiet but they really know how much to do so as not to hurt themselves. She had disolvable stitches so didn't need any removed although one internal stitch came out and the vet cut it.

It was all no big deal - they recover very quickly!

Thanks everyone. I feel so much better. Sadie will be picked up the same day by my mom. I'm hoping she doesn't mess with her stitches because I won't be around. One good thing is that she will be closer to her vet if she needs to go back for some reason.
