Nibbler has a spot on his left cheek that has been loosing fur. It was really small at first, and it had a red dot in the middle of it.  When we showed it to the vet she said that it was probably just a scratch or something. But that spot has gotten bigger, and it now has Three red dots in the middle of it and I know that it itches him because i see him rubbing at it with his front paws or actually scratching it! Any ideas what it could be? I can post a picture if itd help.

Maybe it's some kind of bite? I'd at least call the vet and see if he can look at it again since it's getting worse and not better.

Hmm--my first thought was demodex mange, but I don't remember Bama having a red dot in the place where he lost his fur. I'd DEFINITELY have the vet recheck. I don't see why she wouldn't let you email a picture. That way, if it ISN'T anything to be worried about, you haven't wasted gas going to the vet, and she wouldn't have taken time away from a pet that might need her more. Know what I mean?

I can't make it out. It's too fuzzy. Maybe stand back a little?

I was able to get a much better picture once he fell asleep.

and a close up

It first started off as just one dot, then it kind of spead. He has been scratching at it. The vet is supposed to get back to me since she is out of town

It looks kind of like a mosquito bite that he has scratched until it bled.

And it started off as just a tiny patch and just one small dot. where the blood is is where the dots are.

My first thought was demodex mange too. Apollo had it but never had spots. Ask your vet to do a skin scrap. It never hurts just to be sure.

Has the fur around his eye gotten thinner too?

I think it's mange too.  Has he had vaccinations, been sick, or been under stress recently?  That can cause a flare up.  A scraping by the vet will verify mange or not.

No his fur has always been thin. He hardly has any on his tummy.
It may be mange. I hope not! He has had all vaccination, but he has not been sick nor has he been under any stress. As a matter of fact his only real stress was when I was at work, and since I no longer have a job, he shouldn't be stressed.

You might try this home remedy first to see if it helps it before you go to the vet. The ingredients are cheap and readily available.

hydrogen peroxide, borax and water
