It's probably about 70% moisture, so if she's eating more than recommended and not getting fat, I wouldn't worry about it. How much they need is tied to size, age, and activity level. If she's really active she must be burning off the calories.

My rattie weighs ten pounds, and gets 1/3 cup of raw stuff in the morning, and 1/3 cup of Evo red meat small bites in the evening. At bedtime I give him a little snack of cottage cheese or yogurt. He stays fit on that regimen. I have a really lazy overweight corgi who has the metabolism of a sloth. The basis of his diet is 1 cup of weight control kibble divided into two feedings a day, and he's still obese. It just depends on the dog.

Hi all my I have along legged tuxedo rat terrier and when i was working overnight my other half was free feeding and she got overweight weighing up to 20lb or more, I started her on prescribed overweight food and gradually moved her to weight management after a while when she lost the weight she needed to she is on grain free chicken & sweet potato dry food I give her like 3/4 cup a day or if she is wanting more food 1 cup a day and she has maintained a great weight and is more active and even jumps now. she is much more playful. I have not weighed her in a while but she must be 15-19lbs now and her waist is back and looks great. It depends on the dog but you will know when dog has reached a healthy weight. Now its just a maintenance thing with my Mousie

That all depends on the dog. I have 1 on a weight loss program, same food as always just less of it. I have 2 that we are maintaining a perfect weight with food control. I have one that got fat, lost the 5 lbs she needed to lose, but then lost 2 more lbs. Now she gets fed more. Jack is 11 years old, weighs in at 8.9 lbs now to the 12 he weighed when I adopted him. His weight is maintained with 1/8 cup of food, 3 times a day. My 7 pounder, Kiara at 1 1/2 years, gets the same amount as Jack to keep her weight under control because she is way too small to get fat. Briar, 2 1/2 years, at 11 lbs or so gets 1/4 cup in the am and 1/8 cup the other 2 feedings. Nala, 3 years old, with her extreme weight loss needs to have more because she is so active. She gets 1/4 cup, 3 times a day. So you see it can vary. My vet does not recommend changing to a low cal or weight loss formula, he says keep them on their regular food that they have always eaten but to reduce the amount I give. It works well here. We feed Natual Balance Ultra Premium Synergy formula for puppies to adults so I never have to change their food when they are adults.

Mine plumped up when we were in NY before coming down to FL because the last month there, it got colder and we weren't walking her as frequently. When she had her yearly vet visit, the vet said she's looking a bit wide in the butt so we didn't cut out her food; just did more exercise. It's helped both of us! She's lost 1 1/2 lbs since we've been back in Fl. (end of Nov.) If your dog looks fit, then you're feeding the correct amount. If your dog starts to put on some weight, then you need to either cut back on the food or add more exercise.

I feed raw (a mix of meat, bone, organ meat) mixed with Sojo's veg/fruit, raw egg, and salmon oil, and the recommendation is between 2-4 percent of the dog's weight (daily ration). The range is based on individual factors such as activity, age, and weight control. The trick is to feed based on the dogs optimal weight, so if the dog weighs 12 lbs, but should weigh 10.5, then you feed based on the 10.5 weight.
I feed 3%, which for Pokey (at 7.5 lbs) equals 3.6 oz split morning and evening. Lacey gets 5 oz split in two feedings. They maintain very well on that. The only time that Pokey gets porky is when we leave them at the pet resort and she bullies Lacey out of a bite or two of her ration.
Now if they were very active or doing agility, etc., I'd probably feed more towards the 4 percent range, and as they age, I'll probably have to cut back to less than 3 percent (but bulk up the ration with raw veg.)

Are you trying to post on the "Photos Ratties" board? There are only a few boards that will let you post pictures. I have to reduce my photos to 25% (don't ask me what my camera resolution is --I'm incompetent with technology and my daughter set it for me) and the file extension has to be lower case (.jpg)

I hope you can get it to work. We love pictures.

Rattie photos get posted in the Rattie photo section. To post you must reduce the size of your pic to 125k and like Shirley says you have to change the upper case .JPG file to lower case .jpg. You should do this on your computer before posting. Trying to do that in the browse bar is a lot of hassle and I've never got that to work right so I change it when I down size the photo.
