Good morning~

Has anyone every tried the Bio Spot for a topical flea and tick preventive?  I have been looking around at it and it is much cheaper and seems to be a repelant as well as kill flea's and ticks as well as a repleant for Misquito's and kills those as well?  I just ordered a 3 month dose for 21 bucks!! That was with the shipping!  To get the frontline plus from the vet was 15 a month!

It's my understanding that BioSpot is not water or shampoo-proof...

When I need a flea control, I buy Bio Spot at the Farm Supply store here.  We really dont hardly ever have a flea problem, (where I live seems to be a no-flea area---go figure!)  but every now and then I'll find one or two on the dogs, so I put Bio Spot on them and it seems to take care of things.

Sounds like a good option for us, we also live in a no flea area but do have ticks... Right now I just check him over when we get back inside but I'm afraid of missing one... I just hate putting more chemicals on him then absolutely necessary...

Please keep an eye open for bad reactions to it.  I believe the main ingredient is permethrin, and it has been known to cause negative reactions in some dogs that can range from irritation to seizures and death.  I'm not trying to scare you away from using it,  just be aware what can happen and if your dog exhibits any negative type reactions,  wash off as much as you can with Dawn, or another dishwashing soap and call the vet. Sorry to sound so sinister but I think you should be aware of what COULD happen, even if the risk is small.

I don't seem to find many on Izzy either don't have so much a flea problem as we do a tick problem. I was looking over some reviews and not to many good ones? That worries me some? Not sure if i will use it. I may look for a return policy?

I have been using bio-spot for about a year now. I had always used Advantage on Immi, but that didn't seem to work on Savanna. Also tried Frontline on her, same thing! Fleas. So I thought 'what the heck' and bought bio-spot. It works, we are flea free. Ski is right tho, some dogs have reactions to it. Be sure it is the right dose for your dogs weight. Don't try to use less from a large dog dose. If you pup has a reaction, do what Ski said and wash it off immediately with dish soap, and call your vet.

As for it being shampoo proof, it is, if you use the bio-guard shampoo that is made to not wash off the spot-on flea treatments.

Good luck!

Although we don't have a flea problem out where I live, ticks are a major annoyance. This is my 3rd year using Bio-Spot and I'm pretty satisfied. No reactions so far on ratties, aussies, pits, heelers, or mutts. Bio-Spot's permethrin is totally different than Frontline's

No matter what kind of pest control product I use on the dogs, the horses, or around the house, I always keep the active ingredients portion of the packaging--just in case.

Here's a link (copy-n-paste) to pretty good article on Drs. Foster and Smith's website

We used to use it. It was pretty good, but then we couldn't find it anymore.

We have been using biospot for quite a while. About five years. I love it! We have massive flea problems here as well as ticks and mosquitos and gnats. I have had dogs ears chewed bloody by gnats! I might have to reaply the biospot after the dogs have been out playing in a hard rain all day(their choice), but it is worth it. So far we have had no bad reactions. Because of the number of dogs we always have, between four and eight, I can't afford the advantage product. But biospot I can afford and I usually buy six months to a years supply at a time because I don't want to be without it. I wish that I could use it on me. Bugs eat me alive!

ANYTHING WORTH DOING IS WORTH OVERDOING Mom of eight, only three left at home! Pack leader to ten ratties: Maggie, Mysty, Berry, Simon, Ceecee and five puppies, Star,Sari, Bluebelle, Double stuf, and Snortie. As well as Ginger the Border Collie and a herd of turkeys!
