So this morning after I got out of the shower i was putting on my cloths and noticed Izzy watching something moving on the floor. It was a bug. Not sure what type but they are dark brown almost black. And when you pick them up they make this clicking noise or some wierd thing with thier body. When i was holding it in toilet paper it was clicking and i could feel it like an electric shock kind of. But anyway what happens to dogs who eat these bugs or any bugs for that matter. Not sure if she she had eaten some while we are gone that she may have found. We get lots of odd bugs in our apartment because there is a large wooded lot in the back yard? Please let me know if you know anything about this?
Thanks, |

| I don't know which bugs may be harmful for them to eat but that bug you describe sounds really gross! (I hate bugs) |

| I hate them too. At night it is so bad out back taking Izzy out to go potty. There are millions of moths out there in the wooded area. And our back yard only goes out about 6 feet and then it drops off to the wooded area. It is pretty nice during the day but if you want to enjoy it at night you better be able to stand the lighting bugs and moths. The lightening bugs are fun to watch though. My daughter always asks why they flash so fast. But it is only because there are so many. It is a lighting bug show. Fun. But not all the bugs in the apartment. Nor are the mice in the winter. I also found this past winter we were getting shrews!! They are like mice and look alot like them only they have a longer snout. YUCK. I had to catch them in sticky traps all the time. Not sure what i will do this winter with Izzy around now? Maybe she can be my mouse trapper. I just don't want to see the dead mouse. YUCK! |

Molly is my bug catcher. She's caught all sorts of bugs and leaves them as presents for me -so she usually doesn't eat them. She's also caught bunnies and birds and almost a cat. She's never gotten sick from any of that (thank goodness). I never let her mess with spiders, bees, or wasps though. I always think all of them are poisonous or hurtful. I hate live bugs, so Molly usually takes care of that for me!

Sometimes a wasp will get inside the house and it'll be half dead on the floor and Bailey will go crazy barking at it. She won't stop until I come and see what it is and get rid of it. When I first got her, she got stung by a honey bee on her paw. So she doesn't like bees or wasps, she will snap at them when they fly by. |

| Loco and Mayfly will snap at flies, mosquitos and gnats. This morning a frog went sailing through the car in front of Loco and she almost got it though! |

A frog jumped in your car? Was the car moving? This sounds like a good story. |

No, although I have had frogs land on the windshield here. Here's the story: we have an old El Camino parked in the backyard, it had rained during the night so the little froggies were out (the kind that stick to things with their feet?). Loco was just standing there and one sailed right past her face and landed on the top of the back of the El Camino....she lunged into the air after it but just missed. Loco is extremely fast at most things! |

| Max is a bug finder and bug EATER!!! He will EAT ANYTHING!! So far he hasn't gotten sick. He will play with a bug until it's dead...then Crunch....you can hear him eat it...makes me gag!!!!!!! (especially when he pulls worms out of the ground, slings them around, rolls on them and eats them!!) He's a nasty little rat.....but I love him anyway! |

Oh yeah, worms, I forgot about worms!!!! You're right....Molly plucks them out of the ground, then tortures the poor thing by rolling all over it, then tosses it everywhere. Then of course, she wants to come in and kiss mommy and daddy.

The bug you are talking is commly called a Snapping Beetle(bug) or Clicking Beetle(Bug).
Dottie is an avid bug hunter. She likes to torture them until they no longer have any fight left. |

Yes that is what it is. Deffenatly looks like a member of the beetle family. Nasty little things. Izzy is a girl through and through. She doesn't like to go in the grass when it is wet. And will not step in her own poo. Made me laugh last night because she can close but then jumped it at the last minute. I haven't actually seen her eat a bug she just keeps her eyes on them. She will play chase with flies i have noticed but never seen her eat any bugs just wondered just incase it would make her sick. Thanks for the info everyone!! |
