Hi,

It's great to have fellow rattie lovers!  Does anyone's rattie's belly get bright pink every now and then?  One doctor said not to worry, another said it could be high blood pressure.  YIKES!!!  Opinions?

Daisy has almost no hair on her belly. It is a good indicator of her temperature. The warmer she is, the pinker she is LOL! And when she's cold, it's very grey. I've never heard of it being and indication of high blood pressure - if that concerns you, I'm assuming the vet has a way of checking?

yes, when Gizmo gets hot her belly gets really pink as well as her ears. It goes away when she stops panting or moves out of the sun! When her allergies flare up also. I wouldn't be concerned unless it never goes away. Just pay attention to when it happens, like the dog is hot and panting.

Millie gets a pink belly when she's hot. . .strange thing is her "cow spots" onn her belly also disappear in the Winter and reappear in the Summer. Very funny!

Apollo's turns pink when he's hot too! Like when we have just come inside from our walks or he's been playing outside. I usually keep an eye on it for about 30 min or so to make sure it fades... and it does. But if it were ever not to fade I'd know that maybe he had layed down in something.

Franny and Patty's belly and inside their ears gets pink when they are hot. After they cool down their skin returns to their natural color.

My babies ears amd bellys also get pink when they are hot. Sissill's eyes also get pink I guess because she is white. Hers gets that way every time that she gets sleepy too.

My dog's belly turns very red when he is in trouble. He rolls onto his back and his bright pink belly is very visible. Probley because his bloods startin to pump fast, thinking he is going to get yelled at.

Yes Topper does this too. I do think that he could get sunburned so i usually put on doggie sunscreen on him.

i would have never thought to worry about a dog haveing a pink belly. tauney has a pink belly but she is only a puppy, its not real pink just like a shade light. is there something i need to worry about ?

Tinkerbelle's belly is pretty much a light shade of pink all of the time, but she is all white on her belly and not a lot of hair there.  Also around her nose gets really red when she is outside.  I put sunscreen on her nose once because I thought she was getting sunburned.  Maybe it's just her temp as well.

Man I'm glad this site is here!!! This happened just the other day. It was especially warm out. When we came in from playing her tummy and ears were bright pink. She was lying on her side on the linolium floor in the kitchen. It went away fairly quickly. It's reasuring to know she's not the only one and that there are people here to talk to about these kinds of things.

This site is great! Though I'm finding myself spending way too much time on here...

I really do think for most ratties, the thin hair on some parts of their bodies like their undersides just shows the increased blood flow from being hot and/or excited. Though if you notice it at odd times or all the time, I wouldn't rule out getting a check from the vet or mentioning it at a previousy scheduled visit.

As for finding yourself spending too much time here, Penny's Mamma: Welcome to the club This place is super addicting, it ought to come with a warning label

Dilly's belly also gets very pink when hot. I agree that it's just because they have so little fur there that is so obvious. Probably other dogs do this too, but we don't see it because of their fur.

The other day Diego's ears were very pink, almost red... but then about 20 minutes later they were normal again. I suspect, after reading this thread, he was hot... as it was 115 degrees outside and he can come and go thru the pet door as he pleases...

If everyone recieved kind of love my Diego gives me, there would be world peace.
