I never heard of it. I looked it up, I am kinda skeptical of any "plug-in" stuff. If your gonna spend money on something, I would maybe go with meds that would help to calm her while you work on getting her used to you being gone.

I know that if i do use this or any drug it will not be a "cure-all". I'm only looking for something to help aid in working with her to teach her how to deal with me being gone. And not something i plan to use for a very long spand of time!

I really wish I could help!! sorry.....I've been there and it is really hard. We were never able to calm my Dane's anxiety. He just had to have company. I hope you come up with something that helps!

Savanna was bad for about a week or so when I first got her, then it got better. She knows my routines and deals with it. She still hates when I leave her to go next door to my moms or sisters without taking her. I never used anything to work though this. Drugs or other wise. She has figured out when I leave with 'street' shoes on, that I am going to work or what ever. When she sees me leave with my 'crocs' on, she knows I'm just going next door, she hates that. Sorry, I'm no help to you.  Good luck!

I was thinking this was something that she would get used to with time but we have now had her for a month and it is getting worse not better. I tried the baby gate and the crate training which we will still keep doing but that will take some time. She is just not adjusting. I think i will have to talk to the vet.

Nothing works for our whippet except having another animal with her when we are gone. Mostly she'll just pace and cry and bark though...she doesn't get destructive unless we confine her in a tiny space.

Expanded Description:

How to prevent and treat Separation Anxiety. If you worry about leaving your dog home alone, both because you love your dog and your house, this book is for you. Most dogs can be left home alone during the day and lead happy, fulfilled doggy lives without destroying your house. Of course, some of them get into trouble at home when you're gone because there's so much fun stuff to do without you to stop them. But a small number of dogs suffer from a serious problem called Separation Anxiety, in which they panic at your departure and stay panicked until you return. This book is designed to help those whose dog really suffers from Separation Anxiety, to help you prevent it from developing, and to help you raise a dog with good "house manners." Author: Patricia McConnell.**Other books that may be of interest include: DTB687 Canine Separation Anxiety Workbook, DTB676 Dogs Home Alone, DTB101 Behavior Problems in Dogs, DTB612 Dogs Behaving Badly, DTB594 Dogs Are from Neptune, DTB635 Overcoming Dog Problems, DTB596 Cautious Canine (same author, not same subject.)

Maybe you could get this book at the library.  We got it when we first got Max.

Jenny, can Max not be left alone in the house?
Loco gets so neurotic she's pitiful if she even thinks she will be left alone. She also tramples the ratties when we come back in from the yard because she's loose then and terrified she'll be left behind outside....which never happens but that's her fear.

Max is okay if he can hear mom & dad mowing the lawn or something.  Short periods in the car (in a store) Sometimes people have heard him barking though.   Otherwise he is always with someone.   We don't know that he would wreck anything but we think that he would.     Max is a very lucky/spoiled dog to have a constant companion

But he will go running after someone on the path in back of our house too - little brat!

Last spring when Glenna took Loco up to Atlanta with her, she left Loco in the car while she ran into Krogers. Loco was screaming by the time Glenna got back to the car - people were all looking at her!

I checked out petsmart last night and they had the Comfort Care D.A.P 45 bucks though! So i got some pills that are suppose to help calm dogs. It is called quit moments. I thought i would give that a try. I'm a little nervous about it having some weird side affect but i'm sure it will be fine. I figured i would try it this weekend while i was home with her to be sure it doesn't have some wierd side effects. If not then we will give it ago after that.

I think the best cureall is getting a 2nd dog lol When we used to leave the house Ralph would scream like he was being stabbed to death inside. It was embarrassing but we had to go to work. We ended up getting him a girlfriend and it really helped. he just can't be alone, he had issues with it, so having a friend to stay home with did the trick.

I don't know if you can get a 2nd dog but it helps lol

Well right now getting a second dog is not really an option. We are in an apartment and it is not really big enough to have a second dog. But when we move into a house i would like to get another dog.
