| Were they 100 % chocolate, or had some other kind of filling? Dark, or milk? I think dark is worse than milk. Can you get her to eat some yogurt? Maybe it will coat her stomach. I would not panic. Can your son show you where she threw up, to see if it is the chocolate? Take a flashlight out there, and look. |

I'm assuming they're pretty small pieces, and they're not solid chocolate but have different fillings? I doubt she ate enough to do serious harm, and hopefully she did throw up. I would think, depending on her weight, that 3 pieces might make her hyper and, perhaps, sick, and not much else. If she did eat too much, she could have tremors and possibly seizures. I hope she's ok. |

| That amount is just gonna MAYBE give her diarrhea. She will be all right. I once had a shi tzu who ate the equivalent of about 8 whole bars of milk chocolate. (she broke into a christmas basket that had 15 bars of wrapped chocolates in them. She chewed every single bar and ate over half of several bars.) I was so mad, but I did call the vet and he said that all it would cause was a serious case of intestinal upset. Thankfully, she was well house broken and did the "mess" outside. Hope she passes it quickly and has little effect from it. |

UMMM...I may get flamed for this...but she ate THREE pieces???? SHEESH!
DARK (think baker's) choc IS bad...over a long period. Milk less influenced.
NOT a one incident. It is NOT like Rat Poison.

I think this is a very good reminder, that with the holidays coming soon, we need to be very careful, with chocolates, to keep them out of reach of our furbabies...

| I just saw this she should be just fine my sheltie years ago got in to an unwrapped box of frangos from the very top shelf of a 5 shelf bookcase (about a foot from the ceiling) she unwrapped and ate the whole thing! I worked at an e vet at the time and ran her over to work and he laughed at me and said there really is not enough choc in them to panic about. Oh I was panicked!!!! He said she would get the runs but that did not even happen. LOL that dog had an IRON stomach!! Still have no idea how the heck she got them. I hope Tauney feels better and your doc appt goes good in the AM. |

Yes, dark chocolate is worse. And although you'll always hear stories where dogs ate significant amounts of chocolate and were fine - you'll hear an equal number of stories where they were not fine. Sounds like Tauney didn't get much and is one of the lucky ones which is great. BUT every dog can react differently and what might only give one dog diarhea might make another very sick. So - as Donna pointed out - with all the holidays approaching PLEASE keep the chocolate out of reach. Very important if you have kids in the house especially as they just don't think about this! As always - JMO. You can read the pinned posts here in Health and research it yourself online....chocolate is dangerous stuff for dogs. |
