I took the dogs to the vet Sat to get their nails trimmed and I had to pick up their flea/heartworm treatment too. Anyway, the vet told me Fred has extremely sensative nails and quicks. He will yelp here and there as soon as she touches his foot. A couple times the clippers were not even applying pressure to his nail but the vet said Fred can even feel just the slightest  pressure on his nails. Any of your dogs have this....is there anything I can do??

I can't even TOUCH Mickey's paws without a wail!  I don't know if it's just cuz it's ME, but I can't even try trimming his nails.  I have to take him to my vets and they take him in the back....

Well, heck, maybe that's Mayfly's problem? Hmmm....although she's been much better even since I got a clipper with a "guard" on it. It's made so that I can't get the nail in too far and cut her which gives me the confidence to clip faster and so far I've been able to clip all her nails with it without much drama.

BRAELI... alll BRAELI... she is spoiled rotten!!!! she is such a baby that as soon as your approach her with a clipper she yelps... i hold and distract her and my wife cuts.... once 1 paw is done we show her and the rest is a breeze... but that initial foot is torture for her...

MB, where did you find this clipper? I wonder if I get one and bring it to my vet if it would help. It takes 2 sometimes 3 to hold Alice as she is a little wiggle worm and Fred, well, it just seems like it always hurts him. Do either of yours have really long quicks? Fred does and I wondered if this was why??

All of my pups ar somewhat sensitive but the new one, Kiddah, seems to be extra special sensitive. she SEES the clipper and runs away. So, I've been trying to get her more used to them by showing them to her with treats and a lot of petting and by handling her feet regularly. I have not tried clipping yet, but maybe this will help. I'd also like to get a pedicure just to see if she likes that better.I doubt it but maybe.

hmm...I've never had dogs that were so sensitive about getting their nails cut. other dogs were thrilled with the idea, but they let me "do what I had to do." Buddy would give me his paw and look away...he knew I was going to do it anyways so he may as well cooperate. but these girls......if they even THINK they see the clippers they disappear. I hate having to take them to the vet for something I have always done for my other dogs. Like Pam, I have been trying to get them used to me handling their paws, but Molly doesn't trust me...she thinks I'm up to something.

Val, we got it at Walmart! I think it's possible that since "I" know I can't cut her too close it makes ME more relaxed about it and also quicker....

The ones with the guard that i've seen are not the guillotine like most people are used to, but the scizzor type the pros use. they just have a little, almonst spoon shaped, piece on one side.

Has anyone tried the new grinder type clippers that would like an electric nail file. Thinking of getting one for Ollie.

Sensitive nails or drama queens/kings? Bob acts like we're cutting off his feet when we trim his nails. This last time though, hubby fed him cheerios as I was cutting them and he did better.

I actually got a clipper, with one of those "spoon like" guards, at the dollar store... just look around.
