GRRR!!!   Lucy had been on Nutro Lamb & Rice food from the time we brought her home, and she went blind when she was only 2 1/2 years old. Since she went blind from something that still has no "known" cause --  I sure can't say it was this food that contributed -- but this was what made me start to research and question everything with Lucy's life! Though Nutro sure isn't the worst food that is out there... it isn't the best either... so I switched my dogs to other higher quality kibbles.
The recall has made everything even worse, and after hearing Blue Buffalo had a "secret ingredient" that wasn't on the label  and I'd been feeding this canned food at night with the dry.. I now have a BIG crockpot to make my own "wet" food toppings... out of "human" foods... so heaven help us if they start saying that we humans can't really eat anything either!

Ew, that Nutro Max (I just looked at the website) has wheat flour as the second and third ingredient, also corn gluten! I wouldn't have been feeding anything with the suspect ingredients in it - no matter if that specific food was recalled or not!

Ok once again JMO but that's why I changed the BRAND Apollo was eating, not just the food. If Nutro still supports/supported Menu and Menu could not be trusted then why trust Nutro? Like I've said all long I WILL NOT support any brand that supports Menu or acts as if what Menu did was all innocent and an "I'm sorry" is just going to make everything ok. I don't mean to toot my own horn or anything... please don't think that ,but I know before I had said even if we feed a food from Nutro ( or whatever company ) that is not on the recall list are we still not supporting the foods that are on the recall list? I mean that money we spend just goes back into that same company... no? I feel heartbroken for anyone who as lost thier babies or who's babies have gotten sick over this whole thing. It's sooo awful.  I have vowed to NEVER feed my doggies ANY type of food/snack/treat that has wheat priducts or even the corn products.  Granted, I know no food is perfect but I will always strive to give Emma and Apollo the best that I can based on the infomation I have.

I just switched to Canidae.  I am so glad I stopped feeding Nutro..  I really thought Nutro was a good food but based on their relationship with Menu foods, I choose to not support any company that continues to have a relationship with them.  Mario hasn't vomited at all since I've made the switch.. could be unrelated but it does make me think.

This is scary! Bob hasn't had any symptoms at all. I still have most of a 20 lb. bag left. Now I don't know whether to finish out the bag or throw it out right now.

Wow, I am so glad I changed Yogi's food. When we adopted him he was on Nutro Max Senior dry before I knew anything about dog foods, I thought I was feeding him a premium brand because it wasn't available at grocery stores... Thank God for the internet or I would've never found out so much good info.

Well shoot... I switched Sassy from Iams to Nutro Lamb and Rice..
Punkin was on Blue Buffalo when she came home... both eat the Nutro..
They haven't had any problems but now I'm thinking maybe we should switch again.. and I still have about 20 lbs..
My friends feed their Westies Eagle Pack, so I guess its either that or Canidae..

I'm in the same boat, Jan.  I hate to waste the Nutro I have now, especially since Bob isn't having any problems.  I think symptoms would have shown up by now if that bag of food was bad.  I agree about not supporting a company that is not being responsible to their customers and not stopping their use of ingredients from Menu Foods.  I'll be switching to something else after this bag is gone...IF there is any brand of food left that hasn't been recalled.

I agree with you Maureen.  I feed Canidae.  Granted Apollo and Emma are close in age ( about 5 months apart ) but technically he'll be an adult doggie before her and i can continue to feed them both the same food with out going out and getting two different kinds when he turns one.

Ok now this is freakin me out. Because Mic hasn't been feeling to great lately, remember my posts about the puking and grass and not wanting treats?? He eats Nutro Max. Just ran out though so after work I am stopping by Petsmart to buy food. I just don't know what to get??? Candae seems popular with you guys? What was that other one?? I just don't have time to research before I go to the store and I definitely do NOT want to buy Nutro again!! I just want to have 2 choices in case they don't carry one... ooooo, now I'm worried

I don't think Petsmart carries Canidae or any of the other good brands like Wellness, Innova, etc.

I am SOOO glad I switched to Natural Balance. Ewww this makes me so mad!! Charlie has gotten sick twice while eating that food! The first time I just thought it was because he just ate something funny but now it makes me wonder if Nutro was to blame. I have spent well over $500 on vet bills because of this (Charlie is well worth the money but still!). Never again will I buy anything from Nutro.

Yes, but the only one's I've seen/heard of are the "all stages" and the "lamb and rice" formulas.

There's a chicken & rice version, too. I'm glad I switched to Natural Balance. At this point though I don't really trust any foods - I'm just going to keep getting NB and mixing in the Canidae and hope they're ok.

A toxic substance has also been found in a toothpaste exported from China for humans...it's not sold in the US though.

It is considered one of the better brands. Yogi's on Innova and is doing well on it but I would still like to try Canidae. They DO use Menu foods to make their canned food but have their own plant to make dry and after the recalls are going to be working on getting their own canned plant, also. They also make Evo which is grain free and California Natural if your dog has allergies. If you google Natura Pet Products you can find their website and it's got ingredient lists, etc. on the different foods.

My sister's friend feeds organic food. Anyone heard of any good organic foods?

Well, I think Candae is out only because I've heard its pricey, and they don't sell it at any convenient locations for me, so I'm thinking Innova or California Natural, but I doubt they sell them at petsmart... Do they sell Natural Balance there does anyone know?

I've also heard newman's own organic food is good?

Oh, I hate freaking out, I'm not good at it and I usually end up doing the wrong things!

Canidae's cheaper then Innova or California Natural, they are both organic, though. Innova where I'm at is about 45 bucks for 33 lbs, Canida was around 35 I believe. (I'm sure it varies depending on your location though).

It's okay, I'm a huge freaker-outer, too!

I only feed my dogs Innova.  We switched this last summer to it.  They only use human-grade ingredients, and have even done their own independent tests to make sure that their product was safe.  The dogs love it, and it's the only food that my pups have ever eaten, and they are thriving on it.  Below is a link to their website.  It will help you find a store that sells Innova.  I have to get mine in a feed store in town, but it's no big deal to get it.

I dont think Petsmart sells Natural Balance (at least they dont here) but PetCo does. I get mine from a small pet store and it was $20.99 for a 17 pound bag.

This is sooo confusing, I just thought I was doing such a good thing by switching to Nutro way back when... Kevin is not helping, he keeps wanting Kibbles n' Bits because we got that once a long time ago and Mic went nuts over it...

Is there anywhere with just a simple listing of ingredients to avoid that I could print and bring to the store with me?

If I were you, though, I'd go with Innova since you know it's available in your area.
