I think most vets will tell you to keep them on puppy chow for a year so their bones, joints and all get all the extra vitamins, minerals, milk solids, etc it has it it.
That being said, it isn't detrimental to put them on adult food a little sooner, as my vet did so with Zipper at 7 months of age. She was gaining weight way too fast. She also had me cut out her midday feeding at the same time. Poor Zipper ........she just seems to have a slower metabolism than Button, ans she fights a weight problem still at age two!
Perhaps your pup just doesn't like the brand of puppy chow you're feeding. I know Button just hated Science Diet Puppy Chow. But LOVED Diamond puppy chow the breeder had been feeding. If done gradually over a week, you could introduce a new brand of kibble and see if that makes her more eager to eat? I think I'd try that approach first before giving up on puppy food altogether. Of course, it's your decision here, not mine.  |
