Brutus is not realy liking his puppy food anymore.  He'll eat it but it's not with any great enthusiasm.  Is it too soon to switch him over to adult dog food?  He'll be 8 months old on Aug 17th.

I think most vets will tell you to keep them on puppy chow for a year so their bones, joints and all get all the extra vitamins, minerals, milk solids, etc it has it it.

That being said, it isn't detrimental to put them on adult food a little sooner, as my vet did so with Zipper at 7 months of age.  She was gaining weight way too fast.  She also had me cut out her midday feeding at the same time.  Poor Zipper ........she just seems to have a slower metabolism than Button, ans she fights a weight problem still at age two!

Perhaps your pup just doesn't like the brand of puppy chow you're feeding.  I know Button just hated Science Diet Puppy Chow.  But LOVED Diamond puppy chow the breeder had been feeding.  If done gradually over a week, you could introduce a new brand of kibble and see if that makes her more eager to eat?  I think I'd try that approach first before giving up on puppy food altogether.  Of course, it's your decision here, not mine.

Weird.. Harley has the same problem about not being enthusiastic for his food. It's Science Diet Puppy-Small Bites. Lol  Maybe it just doesn't taste good?? Anyway, we've decided to switch him to Eukanuba. Bought the wrong kind yesterday. Got Adult instead of Puppy. Seems kinda funny to me. But I definitely agree, talk to the vet.

The thing is, he was originally started on Iams puppy food and ate it with no problem.  Then after a month of being on that I read all thebad things about grocery store dog food and switched him over to hollistic.  At the same time I switched my 11 year old dog to hollistic (better late than never).  The puppy ate the hollistic puppy food for about 4 months, but has been stealing pieces of the older dogs food and now seems to be turning his nose up at his food and only wanting her food.  I know if I switched him back to the "garbage" puppy food, he would probably gobble it up with no problem... kind of like I would do with chocolate, if you give me a choice of beans or chocolate, I'm heading for the chocolate.  So with that being said, I don't think it's the brand as much as I think it's the flavor.

From what I've read, there is very little difference between puppy food and adult food: and sometimes puppy food can be bad for bigger breed dogs (that is not the case here of course). Still, especially at 7 1/2 months (versus like 3 months) I'd think it'd be okay to wean him onto the adult food since he's already eating it.

Do you think that maybe he's just wanting what the other dog has? Try putting the puppy food down for the adult dog and see what he does. lol Could be that he just THINKS the other dog is getting better food.

Funny you should ask that... I just put the adult dog food in both dishes, and Brutus ate KC's food!!  Same exact food!!  What a little brat.

Oh, yeah. Radar does that. Same food, and Sophie's bowl has a third less since she's a third his size, but he tries to eat from hers all the time. Silly dog.
