i looked up "computer thermal grease ingest" and the best i could find was get medical attention. you should call your vet, we don't want any internal "burns" or something (i guess... i'm not much of a computer savvy person) |

| from what i just read, youre not supposed to touch it not because of anything it will do to your hands but beacuse you cant get your skin oils and stuff on it when youre using it. |

yeah, i'm not really sure what to do it's weird that the emergency vet wouldn't have any better advice than to call someone else though is there any other vet that has a late number you could call? i got this off of wikipedia to get it off of your hands (not that it really helps) "The preferred way to remove typical silicone oil-based thermal grease from a component or heat sink is by using isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol). If none is available, distilled spirits such as gin will do the job." |

Mary, I would call Poison Control. It sounds like serious stuff and it sounds like it takes hours before it reaches it's full effectiveness, so he may get worse as time goes on. I guess if Toa is acting OK, you could wait and go to the vet in the am. Can you give a dog syrup of ipecap? I'm not sure of the spelling, but that's what you give kids to make them throw up. It sounds like he is throwing up, but you may need to make extra sure that none sticks to his insides....I just don't know, so I would have to call Poison Control. Sorry Girl. I'll pray for you and Toa tonight. |

OMG...wow! Thank you so much...you guys are amazing...sorry I am just checking in...he threw up total about 8-10 times....diarreah once...he was acting like he just didnt feel good...he was drinking plenty of water...etc....about an hour later, he was perking up, tail was wagging, he was hydrated, etc. i fed him about 15 pieces of dry kibble and water and it has stayed down since then. he slept from about midnight until now, we just went potty...im going to lay back down with him for a bit...our regular vet DOES have sunday hours....so...im keeping a close eye on him I hope no one thinks im a bad mommy but I kinda agreed with Nora on this one as far as knowing him really well..i hope you all know that Trixi and Toa get very regular vet care, etc... Lucy's Mommy (Its too early for me to remember your name) your offer means the world to me...I hate feeling like i cant afford something for my pups, but his vet bills this month were already 400 bucks....if we decide to take him in later, we will work it out! thanks again! you guys are the best! |

Sounds like Toa will be okay, but what about you Mommy? You gonna be okay? I think this dog may send you to an early grave! Sorry but I laughed when I read your answer to "What does the bottle say?", your answer was "He ate the bottle." That was funny. Sorry. |

I thought you might find this interesting... turns out you don't have the only dog who has eaten this stuff... I found this in another forum:
I left about half a tube of artic silver 5 on the ground after applying it on the cpu, my dog ate it, and for the last day and a half he has been making weird noises as if he is going to throw up...I really dont want to have to pay a 1000 dollar vet bill..especially because i don't see anything they could do about this. Is it poisneous? I know on thier website it says that humans should not conusme it..But what happens if you do? Just looking for opinions to figure out what i should do-thanks
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I would take him to the vet. Here is the material safety data sheet.
http://www.arcticsilver.com/PDF/as5msds.pdf
Hope he's ok.... you might want to follow him around with a baggie to get the silver... just kidding....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thanks for the help Tedster..I think i will take him to the vet.He hasn't shown any physical signs of being sick..as he is still very energetic..but as i said he has a nasty cough/sneeze. He has been drinking alot of water lately..but im wondering if that will just hurt him more...as water and grease dont go to well together. When you get artic silver on your hands..water seems to just spread it around and make it worse. Once again i really appreciate your help.

Turns out he has parvo ...Hes at the vet right now and im staring at a $2000 vet bill. I told the vet about the artic silver and he said that it would have flushed out of his system by now, and has nothing to to with his sickness..just coinsidence. He is a puppy, so his chances are about 50-50.
Not that the parvo has anything to do with your dog, just thought I would let you see what a vet told this guy, sounds almost like it's a natural instinct for the dog to drink a lot of water to flush it from his system. Hope this makes you feel better.

| OMG I'm so glad he is improving. It's so hard to remember that little bottles and tubes of goo seem innocent to us, but then we don't EAT them. Mine tried to open and eat a bottle of nail polish one time. Broke the lid but I caught them before they ingested any. Puppies will really try our "dog-proofing a house" skills. LOL I'll bet you never lay a tube/bottle of anything down at his level ever again Mary. LOL Why my end tables and coffee table are so barren it almost looks like nobody lives here! Lance saiy I keep it for the House Beautiful photographer, but I just call it dog-proofing. LOL |

I missed this whome thing. I am glad to hearthat Toa is better today. I am not sure if anyone knows this already but....For future reference... my mom used to work @ the Humane Society and told me to induce vomitting on a dog, pour peroxide down their throat. It won't hurt them, except they are puking all over, and it is good to quickly get anything they might of eaten out. |

Glad to hear everything's OK for TOA! How scary. I don't think I would know what to do either. Why does your poison control charge you so much? Is it the animal poison control number that charges that? I've called the local 800 poison control number for things Rowdy has eaten and they have always been helpful- plus free. I figure they may not be the ASPCA poison line, but they have an idea of the negative effects, too. I always thought those numbers were free... |
