Since I brought her home everytime she goes outside she eats grass. It's annoying.

Our dog Radar does the same thing, but he didn't start until after we got the goats, when he started watching them and imitating them (no joke!)

However, I can't chalk Sophia's behavior up to thinking she's a goat (or more likely that the goats are big ole horned dogs) so I'm wondering what's behind it? I mean, I do know that all dogs do this sometimes, for digestion... but EVERYTIME she goes outside?

Thanks in advance.

Grass eating is most commonly a sign of tummy trouble. Since it has been happening since you got him home, it could be possible that it's the nervousness of being in a new place, or possibly a sudden food change, if you didn't get any of the previous food he was eating.

It could also be that his diet is lacking some vitamin or something. Make sure you are feeding something good. There is a ton of information about different foods on here.

From experience, if they eat a little, it's to settle their stomach, if they eat a ton and just keep eating it (if you let them), they are trying to make themselves throw up to get rid of whatever's bothering their tummy.

I hope it resolves itself quickly for you.

like Kristin said, it could be from tummy trouble or lacking certain nutrients, but it could also be a sign of stress. It's just a normal dog thing, don't worry too much about it.

Okay. Yeah, I mean I've had her less than two weeks, so... stress is understandable, and she is adjusting foods (we bought what the shelter had been feeding her, but she refused to eat it, so she had to switch suddenly).
Thanks.

Button has a sensitive stomach and eats grass once or twice a week, usually in the early morning when she gets up. I think it's because her stomach is fed dinner at 3:30pm everyday and she doesn't get food again until 6:30 the next morning. I think she produces too much stomach acid on that empty stomach, and dogs eat grass when they have an upset stomach so they will throw up what is upsetting them. If the stomach is empty, they just throw up the acid bile. Lately I've been feeding her a few bites of something or treats at bedtime and when I do I notice she doesn't usually eat grass the next morning. Unfortunately, this need and maintaining her proper weight is a delicate balance. If I give her too much at night, she starts gaining weight.

Jack will nibble also. We have an area of really long grass way out in the back that he likes to do his business in (goofy dog doesnt like to poop or pee on short grass...go figure) Anyway he nibbles that when he's out there almost everyday.

There is a certain type of (weedy) grass Savanna eats a bit of every time she is out there. She doesn't vomit, and seems fine. Maybe it's just something your pup needs? Sorry, no advice.

I'm with you braeli_bryson. Mine eats grass every time he goes outside. When we go to the dog park, he likes to jump through the tall grass and he always comes out with a mouthful. He doesn't vomit afterwards, so I think he just likes the texture/taste or something.
