I have been noticing Fred takes his paw and rubs his right side gums a lot lately. What could that be??

The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too

Lil'Bit does that when she has a bit of food or treat stuck in the back portion of jaw... between the molars and the lip... sometimes I have to reach back and work it out for her.

Other than that... maybe a tooth is bothering him?

Jack does it too, but he has ulcers and sores in his mouth so I chalked it up to that.

And if you baby is prone to gnaw on sticks, sometimes they can get a fleck of wood or bark jammed up between tooth and gum. Button did that one time. I had to take my fingernail and pull the thing out. Looked like a fleck of thin bark or something. Once removed, she quit rubbing her gum.

A lot of ratties are prone to eat everything. They can get plant thorns and grass sticker burs stuck anywhere in the mouth, way back in theeir jaw, under the tongue. Check carefully. Button got one stuck in the roof of her mouth one time just behind her front teeth! I had to pull it out forcefully!

Mitzy does that when she gets food stuck there.
