well, I got pepper on evo, but now it seems she's constipated! The stuff she was previously on, she was pooping 5x per day. That's just too much in my opinion.

What do I do? Do I mix the food with something, or just switch to something else entirely?

EVO has fewer fillers than many other brands, so it makes the poop more condensed, and they do poop less. What was she on before? And is she straining to poop or are you just seeing less?

How badly is she constipated? I mean not pooping at all for days or straining a lot or what....for constipation I can tell you that canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling) really does work. In fact it's great for human constipation, too.

What do you mean by constipated? Is she held up for a few days, or does she just go less daily? Like Lisabeth said, EVO has fewer fillers so the poop will be less often and more solid.

she's going once a day, if that, and she really strains to get it out. she has not eaten in over a day, and her tummy still feels full. I know she hasn't gotten into anything other than her food, as she is always kenneled when I am gone. prior to today's not eating, she has matched one load in, for one load out. she's keeping her tail tucked against her, and when she does go, she strains for maybe 15 seconds before anything comes out. it's not little nuggets like other people have said. it's almost human sized.

Well I found out the not eating was because someone came into the apartment and freaked her out. She chewed part of her fleece blanket that she sleeps on. Anyone know how to treat that?

She's still straining to poop though, so I have to get that resolved as well. I'll try the pumpkin for sure.

Keep us updated. If it's just constipation the pumpkin will work...she didn't swallow any of the blanket, did she?

Well, the blanket pieces are missing. I don't know if it was little pieces that will pass, or one big chunk that will get blocked. She was pacing all night and couldn't lay down too easily. She was laying when I got up, but didn't want to get out of her kennel for potty. I called the vet, and he said I should be home watching her. If she starts throwing up, it's a blockage, and an emergency. So here I am with a day off of work, just to sit on the couch and watch the dog. :-)

She ate about a tablespoon of pumpkin, and was asking for more. I'll see how it helps. Anyone know what I do with the leftovers? Fridge for short term, freezer for long term?

I know the leftover pumpkin can keep in a tupperware container for at least a week...that's as long as I keep it.

Poor Pepper, I sure hope it's not a blockage. They sure keep us hopping, don't they?

Sure thing, mary beth. They definitely keep us on our toes. If I don't use it in the next 2 days, I'll probably toss it in the freezer. I read somewhere it will keep for a while. I just love hanging around the house waiting for my dog to poop, lol.

Sue, I'd love to have pumpkin muffins, I think they would be really moist like banana bread. I'm not a good baker though. At least not things from scratch. Can I send it to you and have you make it?

After you determine if she has a blockage or not, and you decide to stick with Evo and she still seems a bit "firm" you can always try adding some mixed veggies (no onions) to the EVO. I use frozen, thaw them them run them thru the food processor a bit to make the peices about the size of the EVO small bites and mix it in. Mine do great on that. You can always give them a bit of banana too if you have the other problem. lol! Good luck. Hope it's not a blockage.

She's pooped today. She likes the solid gold samples I got too. I think I'm going to keep the evo around for those high activity days to add in, but not give it all the time. It looked like it wasn't all getting digested. She likes the pumpkin, so I think I'm going to use it to help ward off the side effect of the sudden food change. Her tail is up some of the time, so it's definitely an improvement. I think she's still unsure what's going on in her tummy, but things are moving now. I still have to keep an eye out for the blanket to come out. I haven't seen any sign of that yet.

So glad she's pooped and her tail is up! I think the tucked tail can mean pain (or fear).
Solid Gold is a good food, hope it works for her.

I have good news! I saw fleece come out this morning! I'm sure it wasn't all of it, but it proves that it's not gonna get stuck. I don't know why her tail is still down, maybe she won't be all better till it's all out, but it's a definitely a good sign.

not to highjack, but if anyone reads this and has an opinion, I would appreciate

Nora eats sold gold lamb and rice. and she has some treats, not to much, and a bully stick every other or third day

He poop is a little loose, not diarea, but it is also i hate to say it not dark brown, but more of a goldish color---is that bad???

Well the good news is that after a week, the blanket seems to be all gone. The other good news is that she's got more energy than ever. I'm not sure if it was the sleeping for a week, or the new food, but she's almost acting like a puppy again. She's definitely all better.

Rocky is on Evo. A mix of the small bites and the reduced fat. (His vet said that he has a little extra padding!) I noticed that his poop was quite firm and he seems to strain. I try to give him some frozen green beans every day. Strange thing is that he loves them frozen but if I warm them up, he won't touch them! Hope your little one is doing well on whatever food you choose!!
