Boozer started throwing up about 1:20 this morning. He has thrown up 13 times since then. I gave him some yogurt about 2 hours ago and he hasn't thrown it up. I just gave him some more. He is drinking and pooing normal just throwing up. Is there anything else I can do for him?

Maybe he has something stuck in his throat, that he is gagging on, but can still breath. Is his nose wet and cool, or dry and warm? You do not want him to be dehydrated. I know we always say take them to the vet, but that may be just waht he needs. They can fill him full of fluids, and check for bacterial or viral. Could he have gotten into some bug spray, or one of those ant traps? When Winchester was about 6 mths old, he got into one, and had to go to the emergency vet.

Poor guy! I would just stick with the yogurt for now...no food at all to give his digestive system a rest. That's what the vet has had me do in the the past. I sure hope he's stopped vomiting....I've been there and it's NO fun.

Well Boozer is at the vet. They kept him to run some test. He was still throwing up this morning.

Not to be gross, but what was he throwing up?  Any gurgling noises?

First it has some substance. Then it went to a brownish liquid. I tried some yogurt and then it was white. I gave him some ID food from the vet and that is what he threw up this morning.

Sending healing thoughts Boozer's way.  I hope it's nothing serious and the vet gets to the bottom of the problem fast so that Boozer can have a speedy recovery.

Hmmm... does he seem to be in any type of discomfort? I wonder if he has pancreatitis? Did he eat any fatty foods recently? Did you hear gurgling in his belly at all??

I didn't notice any gurgling. He went with my adult nephew to a bar-b que on Saturday. My nephew says no one fed him anything but you never know. He is very lethargic and all he wants to do is sleep or sit in my lap. I am really worried. I was hoping he ate a bug or something that didn't agree with him but it shouldn't have lasted this long if that was the case.

I also have Geigh at the canine dermatologist to start her allergy shots. They are figuring out the dosage today. He is an hour away one way. I have to go back to get her this afternoon.

I would stop all food for at least 12 hours maybe 24 hours. It won't hurt him to go 24 with no solid food.

He didn't have any food from 1:30 am to 4:00 pm Sunday. That is when I tried some yogurt. It didn't last very long.

Was the yogurt fat free or full fat?  Was it plain or flavored?  All I can think is that the poor baby has pancreatitis... which is treatable, but when flare-ups occur, can be very painful...

Sue, I was thinking pancreatitis too! (very common with shelties). I hope little Boozer gets to feeling better very very soon!

It was plain fat free yogurt. What causes pancreatitis?

I'm not sure what causes pancreatitis, but my Sasha had chronic pancreatitis.  I think some dogs seem to be more susceptible to it.  You have to be careful of how much fat you feed your dog, cuz that's what causes it to flare.  When Sasha's flared up, she vomited up brown gunk and her stomach gurgled quite a bit.  She had such a severe attack last September that she almost died from it but I think that's the extreme (Sasha was a dog of extremes...LOL).  It can be managed.

Oh yikes....I've been giving Mitzy plain yogurt for breakfast each morning. Just a teaspoon but I haven't check to make sure it's fat-free.

Wonder why some dogs can eat anything (I remember as a child my mom giving our dogs leftovers with chunks of fat from meat!!) and others get sick so easily?

Yikes... I know how worried this must have you.  Keeping him hydrated is very important, so I'm glad you have him at the vet. They may put an IV on him if he is dehydrated.

Good thought for you and Boozer... get well bud.

Well, the vet just called. They did a couple of test and they are contridicting. One test showed his pancreatic enzymes were high which would indicate pancreatitis however the other test they did, it is like a pregnancy test, it should change colors if it is pancreatitis, did not indicate it. Also, his red blood cell count is extremely high. They want to keep him on IV fluids overnight and give him a shot for nausea. If his count goes down and he eats and keeps it down, he can go home tomorrow. I don't think I will get much sleep tonight worrying. I know Geigh will be depressed because Boozer won't be home.
