OK....well I wanted to come here and whine about having to spend 200 bucks, but Mitch ruined it by spending over $600, so I will shut up! LOL
There is LOTS to share.....where to begin.
First, the mange. It looks TONS better she said. I mentioned that I was having trouble giving it to him, I was putting it in peanut butter and wet dog food and he was still turning his nose up to it, its been a struggle. We decided that an injection would be a better option and i was ALL FOR IT! This way, I KNOW that Toa is getting every little speck of the meds that he should be and I wont have to fight him. She showed me how to do it and I practiced with saline ...Toa didnt even flinch...he was soooo good!
He was TOTALLY flirting and kissing EVERYONE....they LOVED him and thought he was the cutest and sweetest thing!
When she checked the slide for the demodex, she saw what COULD be ringworm!!!! grrrr...she isnt positive cause it was just a tiny bit so, she has it "growing" right now and it takes 2 weeks to get the results, she said many dog slive ok with ringworm for a period of time but since he has the mange, the ringworm will certainly not help the skin issues...so we need to get that taken care of too...plus...its contageous! YAY
THEN, I mentioned that his ears have been itching. She checked them and said they are SUPER WAXY plus he has an ear infection. She took time to show me how to clean his ears and give him the medicine for the infection...poor guy!
OK, lastly...she said hes FAT!!!!!
no not really, but I asked her what she thought about his weight and i said "its just baby fat right?" she looked at me with a sweet smirk and said "no, he should be eating less" LOL....so, porr little (big) Toa needs to be getting less food. I am going to start feeding him about 1/2 cup a day and give him 1/4 in the AM and 1/4 in the pm. Its SO unfair, cause Trixi and eat a cup a day and not gain an ounce!!!
Anyway, it was a productive and expensive trip to the vet and poor Toa has some "issues" but I wanted to be sure and update you guys! I am SO HAPPY with this new vet, she spend an HOUR with me and Toa, loving on him, listening to me, answering my questions, prasing me on his nutrition and choice of foods (just not amount...LOL) and she took lots of time to show me exactly how to do the ears and the injections...i SO appreciate it and left there feeling comfortable with the care hes getting...a great feeling! |

WHAT edit button, Mary? haha I'm glad you took Toa to the vet and that he's continuing on the road to getting rid of the mange problem. I know... our furkids are expensive, aren't they? But they are worth it. |

| I'm glad that Toa is doing so good, and that you are happy with your new vet. It's worth every cent to make sure our pups are okay...I hate it when any of them don't feel good. |

Sounds all too familiar Nurse Mary...hmmm brother and sister...right down the line. We haven't thought about ringworm, but we will now. Cameo is the same...and equal opportunity lover...she loves everyone eqaully! Cameo is completely content with the Ivermection knowing there is cheese waiting for her afterwards, she laps it up willinglyl! According to Janie, this stuff is really nasty tasting, she got a bit on her finger once and accidentally touched her mouth...yuuck. I give you credit for handling the injections. That's great that Toa is handling it well. Cameo wasn't very happy about having her blood drawn this week. It took three of us to hold her almost still enough. Our vet handled it well moving the draw needle with her moves. I was kinda nervous. Rattangan didn't mind the blood draw at all...good little man he is. He rarely complains unless he is really hurting. She is a little pudgy too, weighing in at 16.4 this week. What is Toa's weight? We've defintiley cut back on her portions getting (guessing here) a little less than 1 cup a day, plus a few treats and other "stuff" here and there, very sparingly though. Our new vet is expensive also, but they are a first rate full hospital. Gees, a 1/4 cup at each feeding is hardly a mouthful. If Toa is like our pack, he downs it in about four seconds. I know how hard it is, they just look up at you, staring longingly right into your eyes, or stand up to get closer to you. Often Cameo will stop in front of me and I'll reach down and put my hands on the side of her face and she raises her head to meet my eyes. I dearly love this little girl baby. Cameo also had in ear infection, that was diagnosed back in early April and she'd been stuffing her left rear paw in her left ear for weeks. When we went in on Friday after she passed out the vet (not our regular) checked her ears and said they looked good. She hasn't scratched her ears in about a week now, what a relief. I worried so with her scratching like that I often scratched her ear for her. I don't thing there is anything I wouldn't do for her...you know the feeling. If you are like me you just want to see your baby looking good, scratching less, and perfectly content. They've got the sweetest little faces! |

Egads! Such hassles.
Mange is one of those things you just have to battle for a while. There is no quick fix, and that sucks. I think you made a good choice with the shots. And it's great that you have a vet you like and trust, and that really ares about your babies.
As for the cost... sigh. It's expense when the get sick. And it wasn't $600... it was $624.94

Were not 100% positive of the ringworm yet, I guess its a good thing that it just barely looked like it MIGHT be ringworm,...id much rather catch it early of course! I will know for sure in two weeks. Phil, thats exactly what Toa had been doing for about a week, itching and itching his poor widdle ears...and when she went to check them and clean them, he cried...poor thing, they must be bugging him!! They are beautiful pups, and yes, of course I just want my baby in tip top shape!! As far as the feedings, I WAS giving Toa a cup per day when he gained this weight...he must have a metabolism like I do! LOL....We had already cut it back to 3/4 about 2 weeks ago and the vet said 1/2 per day will be fine for him especially since the food is such a good quality...he is "storing" the extra I guess! LOL....he weighed in at about 17.4 yesterday, but he was moving all around, they said hes probably less....when he went in April, he was 14.5 But niave me was thinking...hes a puppy, its just puppy fat, hes a growing boy! heheh I looked at the "fat dog" chart and he has the butt roll above his tail...you cant really feel his ribs at all and he has lost his waist (although I dont remember ever seeing it! I think these puppies were well fed at Carolines too! LOL) Anyway, they want to see him again in a month to check his ears, his mange, and his WEIGHT....uh oh...that means mommy has to do her job too! NO PEOPLE FOOD...they said fruits and veggies are great for treats also! Were gettin there! Oh, and Mitch...excuse me.... $624.94...my bad! hehehe |
