Using clippers to clip our Westie's nails, I once cut into the quick. That was maybe 10 years ago. I haven't trimmed the dog's nails since (we let groomers and Vet do it).  Lynn is skitish about it too.

I saw a commercial on TV for a nail grinder for trimming dog's nails. Anyone used this or something like it?

the peticure?? I want one, I did a bit of research and they claimed that it would conk out & had trouble contacting manufacturers to replace or fix.. but that was a while before the ads starting coming on TV, so they may have fixed the issue. Let me know if you get one and how it works!

I can do Sydney's and Sonic's nails but Sonic hassome black nails and the groomer only charges $1.5 per foot so it is so much easier and less stressful for me.

We have used an Oster nail grinder for years (looks like a hand held Dremel tool). Love it. You have to get teh dogs used to it though. Usually Jeff holds the dog, I do the nails and when it's new it's treat per nail.

We use a nail grinder on our dogs... it has taken the major ordeal out of nail trimming for us.  Used to the dogs would wine and jerk and drool about getting nails done now they lay back and let it happen.  Boogie still stresses on the back paws but Bunny will just tuck her nose under Steve's arm and chill out.  They both get a Sweet Potato Chewy after and they certainly do not mind that! LOL

The one you saw on the commercial sounds like a good deal.. nice price and it has the guard on it too.  I would'nt mind that plastic guard as occassionally the dogs try to stick their noses down there and check out the drill - - OUCH that might hurt!

I clip Jeter's, he is very good. Jack, well, his fall off so I don't touch them. But you could get a small dremel and use that, once they are used to the vibration it is much easier. I was going to get one for Jacks nails when they do grow at times because of his SLO it hurts to clip them.

I have been watching that commercial for the peticure everyday--It seems that lots of sold on tv stuff does not work so I held off on ordering

I'm using a human artificial nail grinder like the nail shops use.  Acclimated the girls to it gradually on the floor before using on their nails.  Treats and noise exposure to the machine "on" just stting on the floor, I mean.  The  first time I used on their nails, they din't seem to mind it and now, they are totally relaxed while we do their nails.  I snip off the excess with clippers and then use the grind er when I get closer to the quick.  Figure I'll just use the tool I already own until the motor burns out.  Then I'll get a Peticure.

Peticure... that's what it's called!  Thanks.

Now that someone reminded me about the name, I looked it up online.  This DOES like dremel with a little guard on it.  Reviews indicate that the nail can get hot when you grind it down, so you definitely need to be careful.

The 3 models seem to vary a lot in price - $30 - $60.  I can get a lot of nail-triming at the vet for $60... I'll have to think about it.

Thanks folks.
