My last post was an ecstatic post about how Luby's diarrhea issues finally got solved. She had been having pudding-poo for months before that, but the "cure" didn't last long, unfortunately. Only for about a week did Luby doo have "normal" poo.
A couple of months, another round of Panacur, and (thankfully) a new vet later, we've at least got kind of a diagnosis. I guess I should have titled this post "How to tell if you have a good vet"
My first vet (the bad one) kept getting Luby's name wrong. I should have known from that. He talked too fast and if he had so say something again for me to understand, he acted like I was special ed. or something. Since Luby is skittish and growled, he tried his best not to have to touch her at all, and just had his minions do it for him. He didn't take much time to prescribe pills. He was "reasonably" priced. I hate to say it, folks, but you get what you pay for with these guys.
My new, GOOD, vet knew Luby's and MY name and said them both often, throughout the visit. She took the time to caress and talk softly to Luby to get her to calm down before she did anything. She made it a point to show Luby each tool she used on her, from the stethoscope to the thermometer to the needles. She explains, without making you feel like a dummy, the purpose of each thing she prescribes. She's overpriced.
Long story short, Luby has really high anxiety issues, which exacerbates her intestines. My old vet thought she had hookworm. But the new vet said nope, no hookworms at all. She's got tapeworm. We came home with 5 different kinds of pills, BUT at least I know the purpose of each one. We're switching food again, to a vet-exclusive kind with super-high fiber to help firm up her junk.
Luby seems tired from the meds. I feel so bad that I kept taking her to a horrible vet. Hopefully the new vet knows her stuff and her solutions work...
