Took Jake in for shots and neutering last week....he is now 8 months old and still weighs only 5lbs....I picked the runt of the litter but never expected him to stay so small....thats okay, he thinks he weighs a hundred lbs... ....anyway, they subscribed Rimadyl for pain and inflamation. He is doing very well, can't tell he is having any issues at all...read some things about Rimadyl and not to sure I should keep giving it to him even though they said to give him them all(about 8 days worth)....any thoughts?

I do not like Rimadyl. I would not give it for the full 8 days if it was my dog. Usually, males don't have that big a problem with neutering. I would stop giving it to him. If he needs it, you could give it as needed, but as a regular thing, it scares me. I know some people would disagree with me, but it is my opinion. |

| OMG he is soooooo cute!! Seriously thought, they gave him Rymadyl for neutering? Be VERY careful with that especially since he is so small. Rimadyl can be deadly to to dogs. If you google it you can see what to look for. I personally would never give that for something as routine as a neuter. |

The vet gave him Rimadyl for neutering??? No way. I wouldn't give it to him. JMO Ask him for something milder if the pain is that bad... Our Skipper tried to take it for a bad disk in his back (very painful) and it made him very sick. |

I find it odd that Rimadyl was prescribed for pain following a neutering.... I wouldn't give it to him. Most dogs have no problems following a neutering procedure, and in a day or two he'll be just fine. (and yes... he IS adorable!) |

| He is such a cutie. I love him, he looks so tiny!!!!! I don't really know anything about Rimadyl (other than seeing some other posts on it from time to time) but I, too, don't understand why he would require any automatic meds for a routine neutering operation. My vet won't give meds to females (as he believes some normal pain is good for keeping them from accidentally injuring themselves with over activity) and a spay operation is more difficult than a neuter operation, I believe. At the very least, I would question the vet as to why he feels 8 days worth of medicine is necessary for this type of situation, and, based on his reply, I personally would consider finding another vet. |

| I don't know any thing about Rimadyl but from everyone else it doesn't sound good. Bailey wasn't given any pain meds after her spay. But I do know that Jake is the cutest thing. I want him!!! Hope we see more pics soon. |

Your pup is a cutie!!!!
I've had bad experience with rimadyl, I will not use it. (caused a lot of problems for my Lab.) If he needs pain meds, (and I don't know why he should.) See if your vet will prescribe something else. Savanna only had pain meds for 2 days after her spay. 8 days seems excessive for a neuter. Rimadyl can cause issues with the dogs kidneys. |

Mike: It just sounds so odd that a vet would prescribe such a thing for a neuter recovery AND for 8 days? Please make sure and share tons of pix of your little guy. Goodness, he is too, too adorable. |

What a cutie patootie!! If your baby isn't showing any signs of pain, I wouldn't give it to him for all 8 days. When one of my babies has surgery, dentals, etc... I usually give pain meds the first day and go from there - day by day. Maybe one the next day cuz I'm at work and I don't want them to feel pain while I'm not home. But these dogs are extremely resilient!!!
