Daisy has thrown up a couple of times lately. I really have a hard time finding something she will eat. I am worried that she may not eat enough. I keep NB kibble for her to eat, which she does from time to time, but not really on a regular basis. I have tried numerous kinds of canned food (NB, Merrick, etc), all to no avail except the Cesar variety which is not good for her, but it's the only thing she would eat. Now she is throwing this up. She's still running around and doesn't act sick. Poo is still firm. Just think upset stomach. I don't know where to go next. Any suggestions? What do you give to your pup with an upset stomach? I am not going to feed any more Cesar, but I have to have something to give her. The treats she likes are bacon, cheese and ice. That's really the only thing she goes wild over, other than cat poop outside. She is really finicky with her eats. She's 8 months now and about 9 lbs. Any suggestions please?

IF it is yellow and foamy it's bile likely because she is hungry. Have you considered trying either raw patties or home made?

I give pepto bismal tablets whem mine feel yucky. Call your vet for dogage. I know mine get half.

Maybe you can feed plain chicken and white rice? mine eat anything and rarely have belly issues. Good luck to you!

Bethany, I don't know too much about feeding like that. I guess I have the time right now to do that, but like to keep it simple in case Mom has to go to hospital or something llike that. I feed my "big dogs" Flint River Ranch kibble and I think they make some kind of food that has to be mixed up. I may could try that. It's just that she's so finiicky. Don't know where to start for homemade food.
As a side note, I really like Dawson and was so tempted to put in an app. Daisy really needs a brother to run around and play with, but not knowing how Mom is going to progress, just not the right time.

Well the frozen patties are as easy to feed as kibble. The reason I mention it is because the trouble I had with Zippi years ago with keeping him interested in food was virtually solved by going raw. Homemade is more work especially to keep it balanced and complete. But there are great options now, frozen raw, freeze dried raw, etc. It's so hard with a fussy dog. Before Zip I never believed in 'catering' to the dog. I figured if they didn't eat today they'd eat tomorrow. But he was a pickle. He'd make himself sick and lose weight he couldn't afford to lose and when he did eat kibble many types didn't agree with him. This was before we had so many great options on the market. I think you have more choices today.

You could also try adding a little cooked chicken or ground turkey (as Val suggests) to the meal. Put some at the bottom of the bowl so the kibble on top is more appealing? Once they get that empty tummy which is upset it's harder to tempt them to eat I know.

Sorry your mom is giving you cause for concern. It's so hard to watch as they age. Where are you located? Dawson would LOVE to live with another pup. The current person thinking about him does not have another dog which is the only thing about them that causes me concern for him.

I just made Daisy some boiled chicken breast and rice. She gobbled it up. Didn't give her too much, just in case. I live in the country so I don't have easy access to any good pet stores for this stuff. I have to go to Baton Rouge for anything special which is about 25 miles away. Not bad, but with Mom having to go with me, not an easy task. I've never had a dog that was fussy about food. I thought as you did, Bethany, that if they didn't eat now, they would eat it later. Daisy would let stuff sit for a couple of days and I just couldn't stand that!!
Bethany, along with Daisy over here with Mom and me, my "real" house is next door and I have 2 dogs over there. They are about 60 lbs and took to Daisy from day one. I try and take her over the fence each day for a little play time. They have never been rough with her. All my animals are "fixed". I also have 4 cats that go in and out as they please. Daisy loves them, one in particular that will actually pay attention to her. We have a fenced backyard (both places). The fence on one side of Mom's is hog wire and we are in the process of changing it out to 2"x4" fencing. Lots of room to run around in. I was also concerned about Dawson's medical problems - if they would affect him later in life. With trying to take care of all this bunch, one that requires a whole lot of vet care is just not in my cards at the moment. Of course, if it were mine I would stop at nothing to keep them healthy and comfortable. just with Mom it's hard for me to really do anything anymore.

The vets say he will not have any lasting effects. His lung is completely healed and his ribs are knitting fine. He's a very lucky boy that the attack wasn't worse - it was bad but not permanently damaging. As far as the vets can see he has nothing but good health ahead (though there are never any guarantees of course). I am biased, Peggy, but I think he is the best little dog I've seen in a long time. I even, in many ways, think he is better than the Peanut, because in spite of the atack, he is more socialized and less timid. And this little boy learns SO fast it's truly startling at times.

btw. I'm not surprised about the chicken being a big hit. If you want some references on homemade diets down the road let me know.

OK, Mom had an appt in town this a.m. and we just got back. We left Daisy here and there are 2 different throw up spots to clean up. Looks like the chicken and rice didn't take. I did stop and get her some canned Canidae and I thought I would try that, but now I'm not sure. I should probably wait until her stomach calms down.

have you talked to your vet about this? my dobie mix had a similar problem when he was young...he had developed stomach and intestinal ulcers and needed to be on a bland diet (cooked lean ground beef, rice, and cottage cheese) until they healed up.

poor Daisy, I hope she feels better soon.

Pepper gets plain noodles when she's got a tummy ache. It's easier for me to make than rice. I also let her eat grass when she's outside. That's what dogs naturally do for a sour tummy.

NO. After my babies are sick with tummy trouble. Take a 1/4 minute rice and cook it per directions. After is tis done, get out some fresh cottage cheese. Put a teaspoon of rice in a food bowl (Remember metal ones get hot) but add a teaspoon of cottage cheese. Mix 1/2 to 1/2 in a small proportion. The cottage cheese has a small amount of culture for helping the dog's tummy to recover.

And if you still have vomiting, see a vet. Maybe your babe ate a critter or something more serious.

I'd make sure to treat the sick tummy before trying all kinds of dog foods.

Cesar is the highest in fat and not very good. Take some time to do your own learning on nutrition for dogs. Sounds like you might have one who is allergic to things.

That's 1/4th cup minute rice. Boil 1/4 (same amount) water in a pan to boiling. Add rice, swirl, cover and take off the stove. Wait 5 minutes and done.

Got this tip from a vet I had in Indiana, when my Jimmy had allergies and tummy troubles.

I thank you all for your wonderful help and info. Her tummy seems to have settled down. I'm still feeding her boiled chicken breast and rice. She is now just eating the chicken out of it and leaving the rice. Oh well, at least she's eating it and holding it down. She did have some poo problems this morning. Not runny or anything (thank goodness) just going several times and in odd places. Many thanks again.
