Hi everyone!  I haven't been on in awhile.  Things got really busy around here, some crazy family stuff going on.

Lucy is doing good.  We are still working on house training....  I really hoped she would have it by now but she is doing pretty well for the most part.  She got her third round of puppy shots last week.  She is a great dog and fits in well at our house.

Our biggest problem is her chewing.  I know it is something that will always be there and we bought her a few different toys but she only wants to chew on things she shouldn't.  (TP from the bathroom garbage, the kids' toys (I can't keep them picked up ALL the time), my shoes, the kids' shoes, books, you name it, she chews it.)  I feel like I am constantly picking up because I don't want her to chew anything.  With two toddlers running around, I have enough to worry about with out picking up every 2 minutes.

She has a rope, a stuffed bunny, a Nyla bone, two tennis balls and a kong.  She rarely chews any of them.  Is there something else I should get her??

She chews things that smell interesting. I know picking up is a chore for you, but think about it from her perspective, it's on the floor in her space and smells really really INTEReSTING. If you don't want her to chew the wrong thing, someone needs to be there to watch her when she is loose or the area needs to be picked up. This is a formula that works very well. If you find another way post it here, since this is the only thing that ever worked when training dogs for me.

There is a thread pinned towards the top of the training section on chewing.... you may find something there to help you!

Thanks Nora. I never would have though to take the "bad" thing she was chewing on and replace it with one of her toys instead of scolding her for chewing on the "bad" thing. I will start doing that right away. I am going to the pet store later to pick up some Kong refills and some bully sticks as well. I am wondering if she just isn't interested in the things we DO have for her.

I do try to keep things up but with a almost 3 year old and one year old it is virtually impossible. I would have to spend my entire day walking behind my kids picking up anything that hit the floor and that just isn't possible. I do have other things to do.

Do you keep all her chew toys available to her at all times? if you do, she'll get bored/overwhelmed with them and find new things to chew on on her own. I usually just keep a few out at a time and rotate what's available to my dogs...when I put something "new" out, they go nuts, thinking they have great "new" toys to play with, when in reality they just haven't played with that toy in a few weeks.

LoL! Yes Sara, I am back! hehe!!

Lisabeth, thanks! Yes, I do keep all her toys out all the time. I will try the rotating trick.
