and it was all my fault!!!!

my mother is  abig green thumb... and she gave us these 3 beautiful baby and 2 full grown oleanders that she raises (she has about 20 at home) and she cuts the shoots and grows new ones... anyways....

well i had to repot them and bought these huge pots for them to grow into and brought them on my deck...i left the dirt 1/2 to 3/4 to the top of the pot thinking the "kids" wont bother with them knowing they are toxic!!!! WRONG!!!! braeli and bryson the 1st day jumped right into the pots to lay in the dirt.... 1st no no!!! but for the last week never bothered the  plants or the dirt again...

well last night in their 1st 5 mins on the deck (where they play if not in the yard)... they jumped into 1 pot together, dug up the dirt and chewed the plants!!!!! i didnt know but my wife saw them not realizing that oleanders are TOXIC she thinks nothing of it... my sister-in-law comes over with her weinmeraner and the 3 kids play away and then my babies both puke 3 times each... all green leaves, dirt and bile...i look at he pots and OH NO!!! I FREAK!!!! I call my emergency vet and so on... but after the threw up they played and played and played and no reactions afterwards or this morning!!! thank god!!! I look again at the pots and they never ate the oleander!!!! ther were small tulip like bulbs my mother had planted nest to the oleander... maybe cochus plants... they ate 1 of those and part of the bulb of one.... it didnt sit well but thankfully no effect!!!

needless to say the pots are now off the deck and by my front entrance to the house where it is off limits to the kids!!! what a night of fear!!!

I'm so glad they are ok after that scare. Yup, no toxic plants allowed here in the dog zone. If fact I don't think we have any out front either but that would be the only safe place (other side of the fence not growing through it).

Silly babies. Glad they are okay. There are bulbs, I thought tulip? that are toxic too and can cause the reaction they had. Jack loves to eat braches off my bushes. I swear these dogs are nutty......lol

That must have been very scary! I am so glad to hear the babies are fine.

thank you all... yes thankfully they are fine... it sucks because all the things to make yuor house look nice are toxic to the babies... i have to keep my backyard simple i guess... and hang the flowers off the roof of the deck.

the feeling in my stomach was not good during the situation... it was my wifes bday too...

Oleanders are poisonous to every warm blooded animal. But also are Rhodies. I have over 20 of those of different colors. But none in the dogs yard! Daffodills are very poisonous too. But tulip bulbs are edible!

ANYTHING WORTH DOING IS WORTH OVERDOING Mom of eight, only three left at home! Pack leader to ten ratties: Maggie, Mysty, Berry, Simon, Ceecee and five puppies, Star,Sari, Bluebelle, Double stuf, and Snortie. As well as Ginger the Border Collie and a herd of turkeys!
