Just curious if anyone else has had this issue.  I switched Oreo from California Naturals to Natural Balance Duck and Potato....her gas is horrible!!!  Is that normal for a change??  It's only been a few days and today actually was the first day she is on NB totally without CN mixed in.  She loves the food it seems, eats it all up, picked it out of the CN too.  It's room clearing it is soooo bad.  Any thoughts?

I've heard a lot of dogs on NB have horrible gas...it just must be whatever is in the food.

Oh no! I hope not...I switched her because it has a small bites formula. CN does too, but the only place that carries it around here would have to special order it....seems like a hassle.... I don't want a dog with bad gas...I already have a husband and too boys LOL...

How long did you take to switch foods? You might need to add some of the old kibble back in for a few more days to help her tummy adjust to the change.

My dogs eat Natural Balance (duck/potato) and don't have any gas. Actually, the only time they ever have gas is if I give them new veggie or a treat they aren't used to. They've also eaten the NB Premium in the past and not had gas issues...and keep in mind I've got 4 dogs eating so it's not like I just got lucky with one gas-free dog.

Actually, none of the high-quality foods I've fed have given mine gas. It's always been quite easy to switch over, too.

I would say though that I wouldn't switch a food that was working for my dog just because I wanted a small bite formula. My Mitzy has a tiny mouth and she does fine with the normal size NB (the small bites cost more and with 5 dogs to feed I have to get the best buy!).

I switched over about 5 days, but toward the end she was picking out the NB and leaving the CN. I didn't switch only because NB had a small bites.... she was turning up her nose at the CN. She would eat it, but it would sit there all day until she got hungry enough to eat it. I just assumed she didn't like it all that much. Since my first post, her gas is better...haven't really noticed it actually. She seems to like the NB, she turns in circles when I get the bag out. It's been much easier for me to make sure she gets out to do her business shortly after eating. (we're still potty training)...

You should usually take 2 weeks to completely switch a dog from one kibble to another.

I didn't realize that...I read the back of the NB bag which says it should be done gradually over 3-5 days...

I've always done 3-5 days too, cause like you my boys would pick out the new food and leave the old so whats the point? LOL Mine never had gas on NB except when I initially switched them over, but otherwise none.

She's fine now with the gas actually. Just must have been an initial thing. She is still eating it up, still doing circles when I get the bag out. She never did that with CN. So, I'm glad that I switched over.

Now.....if I could just get her to stop pooping in the house....ugh

How old is she? I used to tether the boys to me when I was busy so I could watch them at all times. When i didn;t they would sneak off and poop. Once I started watching, crating or tethering at all times they progressed very quick.

She's  a little over 5 months.  I like the tether idea, maybe she wouldn't do it if I were right beside her.  I do keep her in her crate when I'm too busy to watch her.  Part of the problem too is that she doesn't signal that she needs to go out.  I have hung a bell and we ring it each time saying "potty outside", but she hasn't caught on yet.

Jeter is 9 months and still doesn't really tell me he has to go out, i just know to keep him os somewhat of a schedule and he holds it well. Jack used to tell me by standing on the door at 5 months of age or so. Guess it depends on the dog. Tethering really does work though cause there is no sneaking off.

Thanks, I think maybe I'll give that a try. She's usually joined at my hip anyway..lol... I usually catch her immediately after eating, but sometimes another one creeps up during the day without me knowing!
