I won't use any product that contains Permethrin.  I've never used it but it seems like every bad reaction to a flea treatment I've read about had permethrin in it.  That's just my personal opinion though, I'm sure somebody here has used it with good results.  It is hazardous to cats though, so you have to careful of that.  Myself,  I stick to Frontline or Advantage.  Also, every vet I've ever been to recommended Frontline.

I've never used it...I too avoid anything with permethrin in it. I have heard of people using it with no ill effects though...I'm just not willing to take the chance.

I use Advantage...used to use Frontline but the fleas around here became immune to it!

I never used it because I believe Jack had a reaction to advantage, which contains one of the same ingredients. Frontline has been fine for mine.

I use it on the advice of my holistic vet.  I can't remember what she said about WHY she prefers it, but I'm sure it has to be reasonable... she said the only thing is to NOT use it on dogs who have SEIZURES... like my Sasha - all my other babies I used K9 Advantix... on Sasha, I used Frontline.

Vinnie uses K-9 Advantix with excellent results. We do not have a cat, however. Definitely NOT for cat households according to what I have read.

I had pepper on it because of the added mosquito protection. My house I was at was so bad, I'd have to stand out there with her or she would have a dozen in less than a minute. I didn't want that door open. They would likely give her heartworm with all the loose running animals around there. I don't give it now, because I'm in a better area. I'm planning on giving her a dose before we go camping in a week. She likes to romp in the fields.

It can cause problems with cats -- it's toxic to them.  And, they don't have to be in direct contact with the treated dog, just the furniture where the dog has been.

Did Jack have a reaction to the imocloniprid? (Spelled wrong!)  That is the common ingredient in Advantage and Advantix...then Advantix has the permethin added.

Not sure MB, but that is all i can figure, which is why I won't try Advantix.  Remember when he was a puppy and had those seizure-like tremors?  They happened when I applied the Advantage, would lessen over the month and then with the 2nd dose he got worse.  i scrubbed it off and within a week or so (i would think to get it out of his system) he never did it again.  The vet isn;t quite so sure but I really think it was that and am not willing to try it again to prove my theory.

I remember that and, yikes, no - I sure wouldn't ever try it again after that!

When it comes right down to it - all these products are made with insecticides which, in a perfect world, we wouldn't put on our dogs.  Supposedly though the amounts the dogs are exposed to are harmless.  There will always be dogs sensitive to them though which is really scary.  The permethin is known to be a carcinogen though which is why I won't us it.  Luckily my dogs are ok with the imidacloprid.
