So Pepper recently had bronchitis, and the loose stool that came as a side effect from that. A week after she was off the meds, she still had the side effect, so I switched her from Natures Recipe Terrier formula, to Natures Recipe Farm Stand Select. Part of the reason, was because it's what I had for her treat ball, and I was just hoping it would work. Besides, it's got the omega-3, and such for her immune system. It firmed up her stool right away.

She's been eating both foods in the past, with no problems. It seems that ever since the antibiotics, she's had some kind of allergy. She's been itchy, but there's no fleas, and she's still coughing when she gets excited. She's been off the meds since May 2.

I'm trying to figure out if it's a food allergy or left overs from her illness..... any thoughts?

The bronchitis could have been an allergic bronchitis so they could be related. Also the ABx treatment can shut down their immune system a little. I would add a good quality Fish Oil to start. i know you mention the food has Omega's but Omega 3's are unstable and any amount claimed to be in foods just can't hold up and really aren't worth anything. I would say that it if it allergies it probably is a contact or inhaled allergy rather than food, but you never know. You could try switching her to a grain free food (like Natural Balance, Evo, Taste of the Wild) and possibe changing the meat source to something less common like duck or venison. Just be aware that it can take up to 12 weeks for full improvement. As for the diarrhea, you may want to add some probiotics or even a few spoons of plain yogurt for a few days. The ABx can kill of good bacteria in the gut as well as bad and it can cause the diarrhea.

Maybe she's allergic to the antibiotics? You might want to mention it to your vet. I'm allergic to one kind of antibiotic, and I got a rash/itching all over, including in my sinuses. They put me on steriods to clear up the rash and the other side effects...it took a week or more to clear up. I make sure that my drs don't try to give that med to me again.

I hope you get it figured out, and that Pepper starts feeling better soon.

The bronchitis was caused by a micobacterium that comes around every 5 years or so. It can be transferred between humans and animals. That's part of how it was confirmed... I gave it to her. As far as the antibiotics, she is off them now, so if she was alergic, she should be better soon. Her stool is better since I changed the food. I wonder if she was just tolerating it before. I was feeding the maximum for her size, and this new stuff, same company, just more of the good stuff, and she's only eating a little more than the minimum for the feeding range. She is happy as a clam, just itchy. We'll see. I hope it wasn't the antibiotics, that would suck.

I agree! I never had a problem with Shamus at all! he was even started on O'l Roy by the breeder but the natural ballance (ultra premium) has SOMETHING! he can't have And it was pretty quick too! and pretty quick for him to get better when i changed him back to Natural Ballance Duck /Potatoe Allergy formula! i couldn't believe it!!! I just thought he got into something! I felt so bad that I DID IT TO HIM!!!!it only took a couple of days for the hair to come back ...sniff sniff....
