I am suspicious that Daxter might have tapeworm, I saw some white strip in his stool 2 days ago and also dried yellow thingy in his bed that is looks like a grain rice in his bed and his butt this morning after he goes poo. So I am taking him to the vet tonight just to make sure.

Do you guys know if tapeworm contagious to other dog if they are living in the same room and sniff each other? I just had my friend's dog stays overnight for 4 days.

How to clean the house if your dog have a tapeworm to prevent it from getting it again. I vacum and wash his bed already with a hot water. But what about carpet or tiles area, should I use clorox and spray all over it to kill the egg?

Help please! Thanks!

Yes, other animals can get the tapeworms if they ingest the eggs....typically transferred via fleas so after treatment for the tapeworm be sure to get all animals in your home on a good flea prevention plan. (They get the tapeworm from eating fleas)

Three of my 4 dogs had it recently....joked with the vet that I thought about swallowing one to loose weight. She said they don't cross species.

MB is exactly right (as usual). Animals get tapeworms from fleas or from eating invested creatures (moles, squirrels, etc). What you saw was definitely a tapeworm. They are little rice grains that joined together make a long, ribbon strip. You need to worm your dog and i would probably treat all of them and treat for fleas. Eleminating fleas will probably take care of the problem, unless your dogs are big hunters. There are several medications your vet can provide for flea preventative. I use one that prevents heartworms and fleas. Good luck

Shhhhh - Please don't tell Katie she is not eligible to run for President. She so loves to dress up, give speeches and pose for pictures. Dixie and I are just trying to humor her. -- Katie's Mom

I went to the vet last night and they confirm it was a tapeworm. Still need to wait for the result of fecal sample test to make sure everything OK. They give him Panacur C for de-worm for 6 days and Frontline for the flea prevention starting on the 1st together with Interceptor for the heartworm prevention. I have to bring another stool sample after 2 weeks to make sure everything is clear up. Thanks for the advice everyone.
