Hi - I am new to the site...hello!!! I have a male, Elway, who is almost 12. He was diagnosed 14 mos. ago with a liver tumor but we can't biopsy - too dangerous. I feel it's not cancer as he eats great and feels good alot, but lately (last 6 mos.) he has constant tummy gurgling & is very uncomfortable at night. We've tried holistic herbs, pepto & pepAC, chicken diet, etc. & nothing is helping. He also sneezes constantly and shakes his ears. I even have a pet communicator coming this Friday (5-16) to help!!! Anyone else have this issue out there and have any thoughts? I would GREATLY appreciate it, as I love him SO much & want him happy and healthy for a long time. Thank you!!! Susan |

Hi, and welcome to you and Elway (We'd love some pics). I'm sorry to hear he is having some medical issues. I have no experience and/or advice, but I do hope you find something to help him. |

Hi Susan!
Welcome to the site!! I had a senior Rat, Sasha, who also had liver dysfunction. Gurgling is a sign of pancreatitis, as Sasha also had chronic pancreatitis and that was one of the symptoms, and every time I heard a gurgle, I knew what was coming.. You have to be careful of Elway's fat intake - try to make whatever you feed him as fat free as possible. Does Elway vomit a lot?
You may also want to see a holistic vet if one is close enough. I have one who treated Sasha and the holistic vet increased Sasha's quality of life and helped her live longer. Sasha was 19 when she passed away recently, but I give Sasha's holistic treatments major credit for her longevity!
For Elway's liver issues - give him Milk Thistle. You can buy it at any drug store. I gave Sasha 2 tablets a day - one in the morning and one at night. It protects the liver. The good thing about milk thistle is that you really cant OD the dog on it, because if you give more than normal, it won't do any harm.
Good luck and let us know if we can help any further!

Hi and welcome, I have no advice on this but love the name Elway. I was born in CO and still have my Elway jersey (not sure if that who your pup is named for but I still like the name). |

The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too

| Has the vet told you what type of tumor. Is it cancerous? The rumbling could be coming from his intestines; not being able to digest his food properly. How are his bowel movements? The tumor may have grown and thus the liver isn't working as well as it should. Is he in any pain? |

Check him for an ear infection. Also, it wouldn't hurt to run a full panel of bloodwork to see where his liver and kidney functions stand. I was really anal about checking Sasha's blood levels as a way to monitor her progress... it was expensive, but worth it!
