Jerry and I took Choxie to the vet today for her routine checkup. We were worried about her stranger barking. She did pretty well only really barked at one very large dog and a bunny she wanted to eat! She didn't growl at any of the many people that approached her so we were very proud. The vet did a fecal exam, heartworm test, a mini panel, and gave her a rabies shot. She also informed us that Choxie has luxating patellas. I was already familiar with the condition from this website. Hehe, I have learned a lot from this community! Well little Choxie has a 1 in one leg and a 2 in the other. I didn't really notice her leg going out until I watched her running around at home. It happens randomly and not very often. We didn't even really take notice of it before, we thought she was just being goofy. She is only 7 months old so I'm thankful we found out about it early but the same time since she is so young it will probably get worse with time.    I love my little puppy and hope it doesn't become painful for her. The doctor said there is not really anything that can be done however I saw on a previous posts that your doctors reccomended keeping her weight down and that some of you have been administering a supplement. How's that working for you that are? Any comments or suggestions would be grealy appreciated!

Thanks!

My little Mitzy has 1's in both hind legs. She is young (3 1/2).  The vet said to keep her weight down  (don't let her get fat) and exercise her....long walks...I wouldn't jump a dog with luxating patellas but that is JMO.  I do give her glucosamine treats too....can't really see a difference with that but the low weight and regular exercise have her skipping less.  She really only did it once in a while anyway....sounds like your baby.

My vet said they do not necessarily get worse as the dog ages.  They can but they don't always.
