has anyone ever heard of these? I know joleighs still young but i would like to get her fixed ASAP.  I got joleigh un-expected and had to borrow $350 to pay the pet deposit from my parents, as they fell in love with her just as i did =)  anyway, im a college kid, and altho her vet bills are paid and shes living rather comfortably (because i just HAVE to spend half of my grocery money on fun toys for her hehe)  I may not be able to afford getting her fixed for another year, once i graduate.  They have a animal rescue group who pays for half here but the waiting list is alreayd over a year long. i heard something about vouchers who are willing to help out people who wish to get their animals fixed but can't afford it.. does anyone else have more information??

You need to check out the website of your local SPCA. Some of them are for low income homes. Usually you still pay a fee...around $50 for the voucher. Also, there is usually a list of local vets that will accept the voucher because not all vets will.

I have used one in the past. I used it with my cat Nala when I was a student in college.

If you can't find anything on the website, then I would just call your local SPCA. I'm sure they would be more than willing to help you out and give you some information on help that is out there. They are always willing to help someone who wants to get their cat/dog spayed/neutered.

When you own a Rattie....you KNOW you are in your right mind

THE MEANING OF RESCUE

Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed,
All nicely tucked in my warm new bed.
I'd like to open my baggage
Lest I forget,
There is so much to carry -
So much to regret.
Hmm... Yes there it is, right on the top
Let's unpack Loneliness, Heartache and Loss,
And there by my leash hides Fear and Shame.
As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave -
I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain.
I loved them, the others, the ones who left me,
But I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me.
Will you add to my baggage?
Will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things -
And take me right back?
Do you have the time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage,
To never repack?
I pray that you do - I'm so tired you see,
But I do come with baggage -
Will you still want me?

They do cats free here (tlconline.org) - put her in a kitty outfit (joking). Good luck!

In our area they have the vouchers. Contact or look up online your local ASPCA. Typically in our area, they do them several times a year and there are a limited number of clinics that do it. Here it is completely free unless you have other things done at the same time....teeth extracted or microchip or whatever. Definitely check into it.....would certainly help with you being in college and all.....Good Luck! I would hesitate to wait on it for a year or two.....just better for the dog to "get it done" and over with....then there is no worry she'll get loose at the wrong time and you won't have the mess.

Lynn, i know, im not stupid.. i mean if i can't even afford to pay full price for a spay, imagine the crisis id have on my hands if she were to get pregnant. I got joleigh because some people decided they didn't want her after they had her for a month. I dont want to bring more puppies into the world that arent as lucky as her and end up in a shelter..

Jessica, this doesn't say anything about being put on a waiting list....

NEED HELP WITH SPAY/NEUTER COSTS?

If you’d like to spay or neuter your dog or cat, but cost is a concern for you, we can help.

The Acadiana Area Veterinary Association provides discount certificates to those in need (based on income).

The certificate entitles you to a 30% discount off the cost of the procedure at participating local veterinarians.

We can provide you with a certificate: you can pick one up in person at our shelter on Saturdays and Sundays, 1 - 4 p.m., or we can mail one to you (if you’d like us to mail it, please call (337) 896-1553 or email lafanimalaid@yahoo.com with the information we need).

I guess i'll email them and get them to mail me one, + call to see which vets around here take them... they are confusing me. I met them at petsmart during one of the weekend adoption days... tats when they told me they don't do vouchers that you bring, you set up through their vets and they pay half.. i did talk to quite a few people that day so maybe i got them confused with someone else.. thanks a LOT spanky's mom, joleighs child bearing days will hopefuly end before they begin! lol
