I have been giving drops to Fred and Alice since last week and today I went home for lunch and they have goop again in their eyes. I think I may be dropping the ball and this is why. The eye meds are to be given 3 times a day. Well when I am by myself I cannot get Alice to sit still to give her the drops, I totally miss even if I pin her down or I put her up on a table, no matter what it's a two person job, which means she is actually only getting treated at night when Guy is home and helps me. I think tomorrow we are all going to get up at 5am with him and do one application then and one at night together but that still leaves me alone at lunch. She gave it back to Fred. Do you think twice a day should be enough to clear her up?? I am at a loss.......

I think if you get two good doses in their eyes each day it should help clear it up.

When we have to give meds 3 times a day what we do (since we both work) is: give in am before leaving...give as soon as we get home from work...give again right before bedtime. maybe not the best way to do it but it gets the job done.

Mary Beth,

I thought of that too, like give one dose at 7 when Guy gets home and then at 11 before bed but I didnt' know if that was to close together, especially since it's their eyes. You think that's okay? If so then i am going to go that route.

That's 4 hours in between...it's what I would do. Not the perfect solution but if it's the only way to get them in....yeah. Maybe give the vet a quick call to be sure?

Valerie try this. Go buy one of the mini muzzles that just slip over the end of the snout and buckle at the back. A little tricky getting the belt just the right length for your dog the first time, but worth the trouble, believe me. I know, ya hate to use a muzzle, but I had the same situation and I had to find a way to administer ear drops. it really worked for me. Button was REAL bad as a puppy about not letting us put ear meds in her ears when she had a bad ear infection at about age 1. The only way she would tolerate it was to use the muzzle (my vet calls it a "part hat" LOL). Once Button realized the futility of fighting the ear drops she settled down and tolerated it without squirming or snarling at us. In fact, Lance had to leave town the very next day and I had to start doing the drops by myself. I went and bought the muzzle in sheer desperation. After a day or two using the muzzle, she realized the drops didn't hurt a bit and got to the point of letting me put the drops in without the muzzle, ALONE even! Always be sure to praise profusely with "Good Medicine" (or whatever) after medicating and always give a VERY special, rare treat so they begin to almost look forward to medicating. This really helps with what can be a very unpleasant task at times. I did all the puppy conditioning but it just didn't work with Button. I just HAD to get creative. LOL
