I took Savanna to the vet yesterday because she had a 'rash' type thing on her neck like nothing I had ever seen before. Tested positive for ringworm. The vet said it is possible she got it from one of my cats. They gave me anitbiotics, a scrub and an ointment to put on it.

Has anyone  ever had to deal with this before? Was it difficult for you to treat? I go back in two weeks for a follow up.

My cats had it, my dogs never got it. It wasn't that bad to tx. Just followed the vets directions, and it went away.

Aww, poor little Savvy.  When Shane was little, we got him a Hymalayan-Persian kitten, and didnt know that it was a ringworm carrier till Shane started breaking out with it.  Took him to 3 different doctors who guessed at what the rash was, and prescribed expensive antibiotics and other treatments that none of which helped at all, and it kept getting worse.  The cat didnt show any signs of it, so we never expected that's what it was, or that's where it came from.  We ended up taking him to a dermatologist who did skin scrapings and asked "do you have a CAT?"-- "well, yes, as a matter of fact, we just got one a couple of weeks ago"--"Oh? well, he has ringworm"   and we actually treated it with the same kind of ointment that people use for athelete's foot because ringworm isnt a worm, it's a fungus.  I hope that Savannah gets better really quickly, and watch for places on your own arms and legs, because it is very contageous.

I got it by 'lovin' on a barn kitty when I was a little girl. Regular old cortizone cream will kill it. It itches like wild fire. Watch yourself for the same rash hon! It's no fun and you don't want it. Did the vet suggest treating the cat? It's best to get totally rid of it from all sources!

Kitties are great carries of it.  We had a cat once when all the kids were young and before we knew it all three of the kids had it along with the cat.  Took about 4 weeks to get rid of it.

Ringworm is like athlete's foot, some get it and some don't. When I was vet teching, I used to get it occasionally on the inside of my forearms from handling animals that had it. We had a joke about it. If the vet was tring to get a diagnoses on it he would remark-" let Rachel handle the animal and if she breaks out, it's ringworm!" har! har!

I good anti fungal cream will get rid of after about ten days or so

Thanks everyone. So far it is just Savanna showing the signs of this. I will take all of the cats to the vet too.  I will wait on every one else.  Immi G Shows no sign of ringworm.

Aw, poor Savanna, I was wondering if Gavin had ringworm but by your description he's doesn't. He has weird round bare places where there simply is no hair.

I've had a ring worm, myself and actually had Amos checked to see if I got it from him. (He didn't have it) The rash tormented me so badly that I bruised the skin on my arm rubbing it. I was trying to avoid scratching. Apparently, I caught it from a C N A who had it at work. That'll teach me to get all huggy with my co workers. Anyway, sorry that Savannah is going through this and I hope that it clears up quickly. (and I hope you miss catching it!)
