Not raw, just no hair (base of the back of the neck, not all the way around). I've had her 2 days. I think I will look for a flat leather one? I am not sure - the current collar is a soft braided one. I use a separate nylon choke type collar when we walk so I think it just must be the way the current one sits on her neck. Any recommendations? would a harness be better or will I see the same type of rub spots? |

I wouldn't leave a harness on all the time, she could get caught on something and not be able to get loose. But for walks, they're great. There was someone here awhile ago (maybe last fall?) that had the same problem, I forget what they decided to do for it, though. Hopefully, they will see this, and give you an answer. |

| I bought a soft rolled leather collar and it sits in a different spot than the other one. I think I'll start taking it off at night when we are in for the eve like we do with our lab (his tags make too much noise). |

| I leave Bella's collar attached to the leash and then when it's time to take her outside, I just put her collar on and we are ready to go. Takes 2 seconds. Bella was having some issues losing some of the hair on her neck too. There was really no reason for her to be wearing a collar around the house anyway so now we just put one on her when she is going outside. |

| Rowdy's had some issues with losing his hair on his neck, too. I just remove his collar when he's inside (which is most of the time) and hang it by the back door for when I let him out. His tags jingle a lot anyway, so it makes it more peaceful in the house, anyway. |

I have 2 dogs that are allergic to most Nylon collars. I buy them Lupine collars and their hair grew back on their necks. Yeah Leather would work too. |

Buddy has a problem with collars. He scratches his neck plum raw. I did find a harness that he tolerates. It's a New Freedom harness (kindof like puppia). And, as much as I hate leaving it on him, it actually is as safe as a collar. In fact it will pull off easier than a collar.
I don't want him tagless because he has been known to dart out the door. He is microchipped, but I don't know how many people would think to have a collarless animal scanned. So far it has worked out well. But, like I said. it can be slipped out a little bit too easlily.
Hope this helps. |

I read somewhere that some dogs react badly to a substance they use in tanning leather. So keep an eye on your baby for awhile. You may be one of the luck ones that have a dog not bothered by it at all. I have a rolled leather collar for Zipper and she's not allergic to that substance, but she prefers no collar at all! . So does Button! I dont keep collars on the girls inside or in my fenced back yard when I'm home. I just put them (or harnesses) on when we go walking. |

What is a Lupine collar?
They are the MOST wonderful collars. They are all I buy. They are guaranteed for -life- even if they are chewed through. You just return it and get a brand new one! Here is their website.

They have these at my pet store. I thought they were cute and looked like good quality. I will consider this if the leather doesn't work out. She doesn't seem allergy prone but I will keep an eye on her. |
