Annie just Ate about ten jelly beans. I see candy on the toxic list. Anyone have any ideas what I should do?? Thank you.

Geesh...I'm not sure. I think jelly beans contain mostly sugar, flavoring and pectin (or something)...I would keep an eye on her and maybe do an internet search (though I'm not finding anything)

Thank you. I was so worried I called the emergency vet. They said the same thing just watch her she should be ok. I don't like the word (should). I think I will stay home tonight and watch her.

I would think that perhaps the sugar could make her a little more hyper (kind of like with kids) .. How much does she weigh?

I agree with Tracey. She may just be a little more hyper, but dogs are tough...they eat some pretty weird stuff and come through it ok. Unless she's really small (toy sized) I don't think there's any reason to worry. I think the candy on the toxic list means chocolate, anyways. To ease your mind, stay with her if you want, better to be on the safe side, right?

If they contained sugar then I would think she'd be ok. The artificial sweetener xylitol can cause coordination problems and seizures.

Thank you all. This is the best place for advice . It has been several hours and she is fine. No side affects at all. Thank goodness I would die if anything happened to her.

I also think that candy on the toxic foods list means that too much sugar can cause pancreatis but one accidental indulgence shouldn't do that.
