MY DOGS WERE TREATED FOR WHIP WORMS AND MY VET SAID TO TREAT THE YARD AS WELL BUT HE DIDN'T TELL ME WHAT TO TREAT IT WITH. WHEN I CALLED UP THERE THE VET WAS BUSY SO I ASKED THE ASSISTANT AND SHE SAID SHE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT I COULD TREAT THE YARD WITH. ITS BEEN OVER 2 HOURS AND HE STILL HASN'T CALLED BACK.CAN ANYONE HELP ME ON THIS?
Look into Advantage Multi It is a prevenitive in it that is for heart, whip,, round worms. It is a flea medication that can be used along with front line for ticks.
I agree with what has been said. You just need to treat your pup for al of these. Meds are available at the vet.
My Daisy had whipworm. The tx was a liquid I had to squirt in her mouth w/syringe...It was a NIGHTMARE trying to get her to take it...we did put her on interceptor as mentioned by others...picking up poop immediately was the only thing that my vet said might help...I hope the tx worked, I have to drop by a "poop sample" in a few days to see fingers are crossed)...I just hope we got rid of 'em
I agree with giving Interceptor. It won't kill the eggs but will kill the adults on a monthly basis so they don't become a problem. Lucky was diagnosed with whipworms once during a routine fecal exam. He never showed any symptoms but we treated him with Panacur. It is 3 small plastic baggies of powder that you mix with food for 3 straight days and then take another stool sample a few weeks later. He's never showed signs of it since.
I agree with the rest. The best course of action is a heartworm preventative that covers whips and other parasites. Unfortunately, whips are almost impossible to iradicate. They can stay in the soil indefinately whether active or dormant.
