Try adding in a small amount of vegetables like carrots, cabbage, olive oil, and spinach. Be careful, though, some veggies like onions are poisoness to your dog.
Fish oils should be given to your dog because most dry foods lack omega 3s and 6s, which can cause skin problems and joint problems later on. The vitamin E is needed because Omegas oxidize quickly and the vitamin E helps to prevent it. You can get seperate fish oils and vit. E or you can get fish oils with the vit. E already added.

If you're feeding EVO, or any good quality dog food, there should be no need to add vitamins or supplements,  with the exception of the omega 3 fish oil and vitamin E.  I wouldn't add any omega 6's though, any good food will have enough.  Also, I would recommend adding water to the kibble,  since it is not natural for them to eat food that is only 10% moisture. It also helps the kidneys remove waste and aids the digestive process.  I add equal parts water to the kibble.  Adding water is only if you feed at specific times though, not if you free feed.  Water in the kibble can promote bacteria growth if you let it sit for too long.

Thank you! good, so i should do the fish oil and vitamin e, and im hoping how much and directions will come on the bottle? lol ive been reading about evo and healthy balance, but i cant choose! maybe i should let the dog choose? i dont know i am very indecisive, i am so indecisive that i ACTUALLY picked out a name for my puppy, after a lot of debate, but now i am split between 2 different ways to spell that name! how sad is that!? HAHA oh and thanx about the water idea, i was thinking about that because i remmeber my friend doing it with her dog but i wasnt sure if i should, and yes i plan on having a schedual feeding, but im still not sure how much to feel, i was thinking twice a day but i dont know how much in a full days serving??? ugh i am stressing before i even get my puppy! i just want to be ready lol

Yes, the directions should be on the bottle.
I haven't heard of Healthy Balance before. Do they have a web site?
You can also add a little canned food to the dry food to add in moisture, but it's quite a bit more expensive.
Try feeding the recommended amount on the bag of dog food, and add a little more or less depending on your dog.
Don't feel bad, I can never make up my mind about certain things either.

The dog food is acturally natural balance not healthy balance, im sure youve heard of that one because it actually exists! lol sorry. ive read on here alot of people use the dick van pattens natural balance potato and duck formula and it sounds like their dogs like it, but the person i might be getting my dog from also reccomended Innova Evo kibble. so i dont know yet haha

Ah, yes, that I have heard of.
NB (Natural Balance) is made specifically for dogs that suffer from allergy issues, and is a very good dog food. However, if your dog doesn't have an allergy, then you should probably get the Innova EVO, just because it has more meat and other ingredients in it. But then, I don't know your dog. Try them on NB for a while, then maybe get a small bag of EVO and switch them over for a while and see if you notice any differences for better or for worse. Just don't change it too often.

I would not recommend the Natural Balance either.  I think it's too low in protein for a puppy.  Some people feel that EVO isn't good for puppies either, but I believe they mean large breed pups. (it makes them grow too fast)  Some also don't like the high ash content. (high mineral content)  You might choose something in between, like Eagle Pack Holistic.  They have a small breed puppy formula that's good.  My two just finished a bag of the Mini and Small Breed Adult.

The reason why some people think too much protein in a dog's diet is harmful is because they think it can cause kidney diseases and other problems, which is not exactly true. POOR quality protein, like "digest" and "by-products" that are hard to digest can stress the kidneys for both older and younger dogs, but just plain meat or meal should be okay. The old, outdated studies that said too much protein was harmful used such low meats. Good protein serves as building blocks for body tissues, organs, enzymes, hormones, antibodies, ect. It's not very easy to explain...take a look at this article if you want to find out more:

As far as fish oils go, many people here use Seapet and Grizzly Bear oil. You can do a quick product search and buy it online if they don't sell it at a local pet store. Fish oils come in liquids, powders, and pills/bites.
