I took Fred to the vet on Saturday, he has conjuctivitus in his eye. They put the dye in there with a black light and said there is no ulcers or lacerations, which is good. We have to put medicine in there 3 times a day for 5 days. It makes him sleepy I think or he just doesn't feel well, he hasnt' done much the past few days.

The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too

Poor baby! I've had that and it's hard not to rub it. I remember waking up with my eye glued shut one morning.

Aw, at least no scratches. Is conjunctivitis like pink eye? I got that once when I worked at a day care....bad stuff that...super irritating.

Poor Fred. I was reading about dog pink eye/conjunctivitis a few weeks ago - apparently its fairly common! I had no idea.

Why was I checking? Our Roxy had one eye that got all puffy and red (of course late on a weekend after the vet was closed). I checked to see if she had anything in it and used some plain saline to rinse it for her a few times and gave her benedryl (she has allergies and has to take this in the spring per vet orders). Luckily, by the time Monday rolled around she was back to her normal cranky old self so no doggie pink eye for us this time. In fact I don't think any of my dogs have ever had it but the websites indicated that the condition was fairly common.
