So sorry, I know you guys are probably sick of hearing about Toa and his hair loss/mange......  but i need your advice again!

This morning I started Toa on the ivermectin for mange.  I gave him .08cc's just like the vet said for the first day (its like a DROP)  LOL.....I gave it to him after breakfast and like 2 minutes later he threw up all of his breakfast!

I am almost positive it is from the flavor of the ivermectin, I heard its nasty!  Mom gives it to Lily in peanut butter, so i need to try that....but, my question is:  Do you guys think it was the flavor?  Did he throw up the medicine?  Should I give it to him again ( in PB)?

advice please!?!

Also, Michael got this shampoo called Chlorhexiderm....should we shampoo him with it?  Its not the dip stuff, its the stuff the stupid vet ( Vet A) sold him to shampoo Toa with before using the dip stuff.....

Hi Mary!
Po Toa!!!
I always gave Yogi his (Ivermectin) first thing in the a.m. using a small syringe...just quickly squirt it in the back of his mouth...he HATED it, made an alful face, but was really good about it. (I mean, every morn for over 4 months!)
He got breakfast an hour later. No throwing up. (Unless he played hard following eating, which we stopped doing ....quickly! LOL!)

That shampoo? DUNNO> look it up on the 'puter...see what's in it?
I used Aveeno Oatmeal body wash and the Hydro-perox.Borax Powder and still do. (I sent you that Peroxide, etc. link in another thread.)

Also I use a powerful Omega 3 plus supplement (Canine "Missing Link" ) because Demodectic mite irritation is all about the pup's immunity system. The more it is strengthened, better chance of not recurring...

Hope he gets over it quickly!!!!

I know I am piping in late her Mary, but as with humans, never give another dose. Assume he got it and move on to the next dose. You can never know how much he did or didn;t get so you risk overdosing it. Let it go and just give it to him again when he is due. How oftem does he get it? Is it something you could give seperate from feeding times in case the mix upset his tummy? And I definately would do PB too. I agree with the fish oils too, boost up that little boys immune system as much as possible and it will help to take care of the mange.

I gave Nibbler his 1st thing int he morning and then followed it up with peanut butter to get rid of the taste (pb has a strong taste) I had to fight him every morning to get it down his throat anyway.
I waited about 30 minutes before feeding him. Hope he gets better

Is yours not cherry flavored?  When my puppies were on the meds they loved it!  Maybe this is a different kind.  They just mixed it with Cherry Syrup.
