So when we first got Lilly she had one little lump on her chest (which we are going to get removed soon the vet said it was ok). We have been noticing larger lumps under her skin, some are soft like a cyst. and some are harder like muscle. They do not bother her at all. Thom thinks it might be her food. WE have been feeding both the pups Nature's Recipe for Terriers. Casey has not had any skin reactions and I figured if Lilly was having an allergic reaction than Casey would too because he has very sencitive skin to allergies. They may have been with her the whole time...we don't know her past history seeing that she was a rescue.
I was wondering if anybody's pups had had lump in the body due to food allergies? I plan to take her to the vet as soon as I can...like I said they don't bother her, she doesn't even notice them. Any thoughts would be great thanks. |

| I've never heard of food allergies causing lumps. What does the vet say the lumps are? Fatty deposits, cysts? |

| I would have to say no. They sound like some sort of fatty cyst but you NEVER KNOW, so I would get her to the vet. |

The vet said the little one on her chest when we first took her in for a checkup when we first got her was just a little cyst and could be drained easily. But we didn't notice the others until she had tones down and lost some weight. She was quite hefty when we got her. I plan to get them looked at asap. our vet is really booked up this week. But last time the vet said they should be ok for a little while seeing that they don't hurt her. Thanks again everyone. |

I haven't heard of allergies causing causing limps. And it doesn't have to be a FOOD allergy if it is an allergy. I'd get her checked out for something else at the vet. What type of Nature's Recipe do you feed your dog? |

We feed them Nature's Recipe Breed Specific for Terrier dogs. No beef, corn, or wheat, by products or fillers or artificial preservatives.
I am pritty sure she had the lumps before we got her. Thom just thought it might be the food, he wanted me to ask if anyone else had ever had that problem. |

Ingredients in Nature's Recipe for Terriers:
Chicken, Pearled Barley, Ground Rice, Chicken Meal, Oatmeal, Poultry Fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols), Dried Brewers Yeast, Tomato Pomace, Flax Seed, Calcium Carbonate, Animal Digest, Sodium Tripolyphosphate, Potassium Chloride, Alfalfa Nutrient Concentrate, Salt, Vitamins (Vitamin E Supplement, L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (source of vitamin C), Inositol, Niacin Supplement, Vitamin A Supplement, d-Calcium Pantothenate, Thiamine Mononitrate, Beta-Carotene, Riboflavin Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex (source of vitamin K activity), Vitamin D3 Supplement, Folic Acid, Biotin, Vitamin B12 Supplement), Minerals (Zinc Proteinate, Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Oxide, Iron Proteinate, Copper Sulfate, Copper Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Manganous Oxide, Calcium Iodate, Sodium Selenite), Yucca Schidigera, Choline Chloride, Rosemary, Garlic Powder, Spearmint, Parsley, Ginger Extract.
I still don't think a food allergy is the cause of her 'bumps', but I don't like the unidentified meat products in it. Also, I have heard that 'digest' is a very low source of meat. |

I have heard that also, but Casey is VERY picky in the type of dog food he will eat..this is one of the only kinds he will even touch. Do you know of any similar foods to this one we might try that have better meat sources? |

Frankly, I don't care what my dog likes. Sam's not dumb...he'll eat it if he gets hungry. Maybe I'm being a little tough, but it's what's best for him.
Think of low quality dog foods as doggy junk food. Would you only eat ice cream and chips just because it tastes better then vegetables and meats? Most lower brands use artificial flavorings so that it tastes better, but that doesn't mean he should eat it.
Also, anything marked just "animal" or "meat" meal, digest, ect. could be ANY animal. Roadkill, dead zoo animals, and I have learned not to long ago that some companies even put EUTHANIZED DOGS AND CATS in their pet food!! This is not only canabalizing your dog, but it could also be poisoning him, because the chemical used to put dogs and cats to sleep -pentobarbital- survives the rendering process and ends up in your dog's food. Read more here:
http://petcaretips.net/euthanized_pets.html
If you're still worried he won't eat the food, you can try mixing in a little table scraps like leftover meat, rice, gravy, or the like into his food, so it tastes better. The real meat would be good for him too. |
