Hi everyone I'm new to the forums, I have a three year old rat terrier named Rocky. Rocky developed what I thought was a rash on his stomach, especially between his rear legs and tummy. I took him to the vet and she said it was a yeast infection. Simple fix I gave him pills twice a day for 6 weeks, after the first week it was gone. About the 5th week it came back with a vengence and was bright red and very tender. This time the vet said it was a bacteria gone wild so she gave me antibiotics. After two days it was gone, then 3 week later its back, not as bad but there are bumps the size of BB's down in his crotch area. Should I take him in for a third visit? Has anyone seen this in their dogs. Thanks.

I'm no expert by any means, but it does sound like a bacterial infection. A resistant one. It could quite possibly be a Staph infection. Those can be hard to get rid of.

My Zipper has been fighting this since February.  Vet has tried steroids, antiinflammatory,  antibiotics with little improvement.  Then we put her on 5 ml. of children's  benadryl in AM and 1/2 tab 10mg.Claratin in PM (not Claratin-D).  This finally seemed to help with the itching, licking, and redness.  Bumps/hives have stopped, but tummy still a bit red some days. Fur is terribly discolored there from repeated licking.   We're pretty sure it's not food allergy or infections now.......just inhalent or contact allergies.

Poor thing, we think she also got stung by a BEE during all this, too, (cauaght her & Button pawing at one on the sidewalk) and just when the belly stuff was finally clearing up!  The bumps and redness reappeared & got so bad one Saturday night I though I was gonna have to take her to the doggie EMG clinic.

At least she has pretty much stopped licking it and discoloring her white fur!  Redness/brownness is less, too  Vet said allergies have been REAL bad this year for dogs AND people.  We've been sneezing a lot this year, too!  I think with Zipper, it's either grass pollen or oak pollen (we have 3 live oaks in the back yard that have been dropping tons of silks everywhere).
