Hi Everyone! I have a dilema with our little 9 month old rattie! Just about every toy we have bought her, she destroys it within hours! I've learned no more stuffed toys as they are destuffed and desqueaked within an hour. All squeaky balls, she totally rips them up (after she plays chase for a while with it) into tiny little pieces. We bought her a kong ball when she first came home with us and it disappeared, then a few months later it reappeared. Within a few hours, after getting the peanut butter out, she had it tore in half! Really! Does anyone else have this problem?!?!? We always throw them out as soon as she starts shredding her rubber toys, because she sometime eats the pieces! We got her a nylabone and she hardly plays with it, not interesting enough to her, I guess.
So today I went to the pet store and was there forever searching and reading all of the toy packages. I bought her a toy that said virtually indestructable and she managed to tear many pieces off already. I bought it at 3pm today and its going on 10:30pm and about 1/4 of it is already gone. My hubby wants to take it from her, but she's enjoying it so much!!! So I feel bad to take it. On top of it, these toys are so expensive! I don't even buy our 2 kitties toys anymore, because little Abby thinks they are hers!
Any suggestions?
Thanks so much Lorraine
Isn't she a sweetie?................................

| Young terriers need things to chew and destroy. We regularly go through soft toys here. Once the fluffies start flying I generally pull the guts out and they get to play with the 'shell' for a while. We have lots of flattened fluffy toys. At 9months she should be finished (or finishing up) her teething phase but even my 11 year old terrier still likes to chew. Have you tried some things like Bully Sticks, Kong toys, and other things made especially for chewing? |

I'll have to try the bully sticks. She tore apart her kong. Right in half! I like going to the dollar stores and just getting several stuffed toys and letting her have at it! She goes nuts! I let her keep the outer shells too! We have a ton of unstuffed toys around the house.
I just wasn't sure if there were any toys that last longer than a day! When I go to the pet stores and tell them, their reaction is 'what kind of dog do you have?' and they always sound terriefied! She's a great little girl, just ruff with her toys!
Thanks! Rain |

| There was another thread about this recently, try doing a search. I think a few folks found toys that were made of fire house fabric which held up very well to the destructors. |

Welcome to the site! You'll love it here. WOW, you definitely have an aggressive chewer on your hands there. Button was a pretty bad chewer. Only nylabones, solid rubber toys and the teeny tiny rawhide sticks placated her chewing needs. I know Kong makes an "extra tough" black rubber toy for "tough chewers". Try one of those. I go to the Dollar Store and buy only solid rubber toys for my girls. They also like to toss around and play tug of war with a strip of fleece I tied up with knots every 10 ". If they shred that, I just cut off another strip and make a new one! |

Fuji is an agressive chewer also. The only toys that last any length of time are nylabones(there are a couple of styles he likes), real bones(from the store) and recently we found this little red turtle that has lasted several weeks. He destroyed the Kong disc, but the other one is still around. He has the red one. |

Have you tried plastic bottles? My Sam loves them! Just make sure you take the bottle's cap off so she doesn't choke on it. |

I go to garage sales andbuy stuffed animals by the bag and then replace as needed. I made a mistake one time and did not notice one ofthe stuffed animals had those little white platic beads in them until Sydney and Sonic played tug-of-war and ripped it in half. Those little white pieces sure can fly and they do not clean up with the vac. very well. |

Welcome to my world. No toy is safe in this house from the destruction of Tinkerbelle the Terminator. Under my bed is filled with empty stuffed animal carcasses, just out of my reach of course! She has one tire toy that is still sturdy, but that's because she has no interest in it whatsoever. Good Luck! |
