Julia and Caesar acted like little babies there!hehehe  They did just fine, however the heartworm pills are different now. They used to give intercepter(sp?) today they gave me IVERHART MAX. I've never heard of this...do any of you use this?

Oh, also looks like I have a couple of chubby ratties!! Caesar has gained almost 3lbs in one year!!! My gosh!!! He weighs 18.5 now...and Julia weighs 16.5. She gained 1.5 lbs. I guess it was a long winter!!! Well, my vet said to cut back on the amout of food they eat and more walks...I do take them for walks but only about 3 times a week.  I'll have to start walking them daily!! I feed Natural Balance and I feed the amount is says to on the label..guess I'll be cuting back.

I'm glad they had good reports, except for the weight gain. Bob is a little chubby too.

Do you just cut back on Bobs food or did you switch to another "diet" food??

Which type of NB are you feeding?  From what I saw,  feeding the recommended amount would be too many calories for your sized dogs.  Their website says a 15 pound dog should get a cup a day, which is 485 calories (regular Nat Bal formula).  They probably should get a little less than 2/3 cup.  If you're feeding a cup a day, I would start giving 3/4 cups a day and maybe add a bit of green beans for added lo cal bulk.  Depending on their level of exercise, you could slowly cut back closer to the 2/3 cup level.

My vet said that Iverhart is the generic version of Heartguard.  I've been using Iverhart Plus, and give it from about June 1st thru November 1st.

I feed NB duck/potato and if I fed my ratties (who weigh 11-12 lbs.) a cup a day they'd be blimps by now. They get 1/2-2/3 cup a day. The feeding guidelines on bags (of any brand food) are just that - guidelines. Each dog varies in metabolism, activity level, etc.

Good luck!

Yup, feed less. Jack @ 14lbs got just under 2/3cup of NB day. The bags are general guidelines, you need to adjust for activity level and individual dogs metabolism.

Well today I started feeding less...they just always seem hungry. They could eat all day if I let them though...LOL! They don't seem over weight, just solid. I'll let you guys know how it goes. Thank you for all your help!

Well,  if you think they'll lose the excess weight over the summer thru exercise then that's your call.   You could always try cutting back a little over the winter months.  Or replace a bit of kibble with eggs or lean meat for added protein.   I don't mind seeing my dogs act hungry when I know they are getting what they need.  I fed EVO Reduced Fat mostly during the colder weather as Lucky seems to respond well to low carb (grainless) foods.  Now that it's warmer, they've been getting a couple of varieties of Eagle Pack Holistic foods, Chicken/Rice and Small and Mini Breed Adult .  I just know from experience that the weight can build without you really noticing until there's a problem.  Do your two still have a waist when viewed from above?  Is the area behind the stomache still tucked up, or is it getting to be more of a straight line?

Ski~ the area behind the stomach is still tucked up, not a straight line. My vet said that looking down, they don't have the shape he would like to see...Hopefully with the warmer weather and going outside more they will lose the extra winter pounds. thank you for all your advice...I've never had to deal with this before. Last winter Caesar didn't gain any weight...and we didn't have Julia yet. Thank you, thank you for helping me...I just want what's best for them.
