Ever since I got Ella she's is scared of EVERYTHING! She's scared of water bottles, paper plates, turning on my camara (when the lenses go in & out), anything that make noises. She's scares so easily.  She's not scared of people. She's scared of big dogs. She just lays down & rolls onto her back, sticking her legs straight out. (Which is kinda cute.) Little dogs, no problems. Which I can understand about the big dogs. She's very outgoing but when it comes to objects, she's a totally different dog. Is this typical rattie behavior? I've NEVER done anything to make her think that I was going to hurt her. This was built in before me & I got her at 3 months. Is there anything that I can do to help her but  just love her for who she is?

Some are more skittish than others - best thing you can do is work on her confidence. YOU can set up little challenges for her to conquer and keep her socialized with lots of people. Most of all just love her (like we know you will).

well..since she has ALWAYS had only you? sound like she is just sensitive... poor thing.. but ya know, I'd rather have one like that then one like Cash thats not afraid of ANYTHING! he will take it on! even mean pit bulls! he's like a kid with ADHD! THAT is hard to undo... Polo is sensitive but brave not the same, he at least THINKS about what he doesn't like...he is getting better Cash will never outgrow his ADHD behavior,it 's a pain sometimes... so consider your self lucky!you don't have this!

Mia,

This is what I do. When I see that Spanky is unsure of something I make a game out of it,make it fun then when he shows an interest I give him a treat. One of his huge "NO I don't like that" things was the vacuume..we made a game out of it when I brought it out, first with it off, I would put a treat on it & if he wanted it he would have to go up to it & get it,all the time I was incouraging him that it was ok. Now when the vacuume comes out,he runs right up to it & looks for a treat & when I turn it on he will chase it as I vacuume.
He also was unsure of the camera when I turned it on,I think because of hte noise it made..we did the same thing about making a game out of it. When he would come up to me I would give him a treat..now I can't get him far enough away to take a good picture LOL.
I have also noticed that they go through phase, sometimes they are fine, others all of a sudden whatever it is is a big bad monster that's going to get them. Spanky is just about out of this phase now..phewww LOL

When you own a Rattie....you KNOW you are in your right mind

THE MEANING OF RESCUE

Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed,
All nicely tucked in my warm new bed.
I'd like to open my baggage
Lest I forget,
There is so much to carry -
So much to regret.
Hmm... Yes there it is, right on the top
Let's unpack Loneliness, Heartache and Loss,
And there by my leash hides Fear and Shame.
As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave -
I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain.
I loved them, the others, the ones who left me,
But I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me.
Will you add to my baggage?
Will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things -
And take me right back?
Do you have the time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage,
To never repack?
I pray that you do - I'm so tired you see,
But I do come with baggage -
Will you still want me?

Mims is afraid of thunder or anything that sounds like thunder; like a plane flying overhead!  She doesn't like loud sudden noises and I have to admit that I don't either.  I think maybe it's just the way some dogs are.  Although, Mims was a rescue, I don't know what her life was like before we got her.  I just give her lots of love and cuddles and she returns the favor with some very juicy doggy kisses!
