Our vet won't spay Lucy until she is 6 months. Is that the going age?? For some reason I was thinking it was 3-4 months old so I called to get an apt since she is almost 3 months but was told they wouldn't until 6.... Which is fine I guess, I was just wondering if this is a universal rule or if my vet is just weird. LoL Shiloh was over a year when we got him (not nutered at the time) so I didn't have to worry about his age. |

check with your SPCA most do it 14 weeks if needed,to adopt them out....I don't know why most VETS! won't...Mine would do it at 6 weeks! and did!(she works with SPCA) a lot!!! on rescues.or ferral cats.SPCA and Humain Society do it sooner...not sure why there is such a disparity... |

| Spanky was neutered at 4 months old, I think most vets like to wait until the females are 6 months. |

When you own a Rattie....you KNOW you are in your right mind
THE MEANING OF RESCUE
Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed, All nicely tucked in my warm new bed. I'd like to open my baggage Lest I forget, There is so much to carry - So much to regret. Hmm... Yes there it is, right on the top Let's unpack Loneliness, Heartache and Loss, And there by my leash hides Fear and Shame. As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave - I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain. I loved them, the others, the ones who left me, But I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me. Will you add to my baggage? Will you help me unpack? Or will you just look at my things - And take me right back? Do you have the time to help me unpack? To put away my baggage, To never repack? I pray that you do - I'm so tired you see, But I do come with baggage - Will you still want me?

| Wonder why that is (that they won't do females until 6 months)... Like I said, it isn't really a big deal but that really puts being able to foster off! hehe |

| I think maybe that's just the "routine recommended age" for vets to spay. One reason is that early spay can interfere with growth in large breed puppies but so far that hasn't been shown in small breeds. If you want to spay earlier just find another vet who will do it or find a spay/neuter clinic. |
