I take Sadie to the dog park almost every day.  Because she doesn't seem to realize that she is little, she plays rough with the big dogs and gets filthy in the process.  She also shares their fleas.

I got sick and tired of the dirt in my bed and the constant scratching, so I started bathing Sadie daily.

I use very gentle soap with high oil content.  When I first started this, I went crazy buying soaps.  My favorites are Tea Tree Oil Soap and Castile with Eucalyptus Oil (Eucalyptus is a natural insect repellent)  I also like Pine Tar Soap (Great for dry skin and dandruff).

I have found that bar soap is easier to use than liquid soap because I just have to run it all over her body and I don't wind up using more than I need.

So far, Sadie has stopped scratching so much and isn't showing any signs of flakes.

What do ya'll think?

First....welcome to the site. Sadie is a cutie Most ratties think they're "big dogs" I think if the soaps you're using seem to be working and she isn't showing signs of any skin issues, then you should be ok. Daisy doesn't get bathed that often so I don't have much advice. With the fleas, is Sadie on any kind of flea preventative? I think that if she's exposed often, it might be a good idea to have her on something if you don't already.

Again, welcome to the site. Please stick around and posts often - including, of course, LOTS of pics of Sadie!

Personally, I don't think I would bathe Sadie very often.  Your own vet will tell you that more than once a week, no matter what kind of soap you are using, will remove most of the lanolin from the skin and coat.  Then, flaky, dry dandruff and itching will start to be a problem for Sadie.  In fact, most vets will tell you only to bathe a short-haired dog when they get real muddy or smell bad from something they have rolled in.  That's the only time I bathe my girls (and once during shedding season), and believe me, they do not look or smell bad, EVER.  Most dirt, if dry,  just sloughs/brushes right off a short-haired dog's fur.  In all honesty, baths are a human hang up.

Now if I lived in the country where cow patties and other stinky stuff were "readily available" to roll in, I would probably have to bathe my dogs more often.  But in the city, mine just don't get very dirty except after a muddy rainy spell.  And even then, I usually just stick their feet under the kitchen spigot and wash feet only.

I would have to second what Peggy said. You will eventually dry her out. Especially with the tee tree and pine tar soaps. They can be pretty harsh if used too much. If she is muddy I would either let her dry and brush it out or just rinse her off with water no soap. Weekly baths may be okay, but daily is too much IMO. For fleas I would use a topical flea meds if she is exposed that much.
