some dogs DO seem to have a fetish with poop, and will eat and play with it if they can. Theres something you can put on there food that will make them disinterested in poo. I forget what it's called, but I'll see if I can find it again.

Here's a page about Coprophagia, which is what this habit is called. Apparently it's more common in puppies, and can just be a bad habit or some underlying medical condition. This also has some suggestions on how to stop it.

My 4 month old is eating her poo too!!!! It is sooo gross! I can stop her during the day because I can see it, but at night, our backyard isn't that well lit and she always seems to nab a little bit. My husband thinks she goes hunting for it! I do pick it up pretty often, but I will admit, I'm not out there daily. I am hoping she will grow out of it with gentle reminders from us when we see her going after it.

A pet food health store in our area suggested giving her a probiotic in her food. I bought it but haven't tried it because we are still adjusting to a food change and I don't want to introduce too much at once. Thanks for the website, I'm going to check it out!

Ick!! I dont have any advice, sorry. The closest I have come to dealing with this is my parents' lab mix who rolls in poop or anything dead. YUCK!!

There's lots of advice about this on the forum AND on the internet. Although this behavior is more common with some breeds... it can happen with any breed. And... although it's disgusting to us humans, it's not an unnatural behavior for canines. It can be corrected... best to start early with this!

This is not right! Lol! I have not caught Abby eating her pooh, but the kitties pooh! I keep the cat box in the spare bathroom and I would be sitting on the couch and see Abby run by and I could tell she had something in her mouth. When I would finally catch her, I would find her little treat! So GROSS! I have a large box sitting right in front of the bathroom, which she hasn't jumped over yet and the cats can still get to their box. The box is an eye soar, but I think its better then the other!

Ewww, that is gross!  My Oreo ate some of her own last night, this morning, and then ate some deer poop from our backyard!  She won't stop!  Now that I know she'll eat other animals, I have to really watch her...don't want her to get giarrdia (sp?).
