I think I feed way to mcuh. I give both Fred & Alice the same amount 3/4 cup split into 2 feedings. I feed Alice more than she should get because she is an A type rattie and exercises a lot!! I feed less to Fred because he is a chubber. I don't even know if these amounts are right?? I treat with baby carrots, yogurt and 2 milkbones a day oh a mini dingo at our dinner time. I think I am overfeeding............... |

Max is complicated.
Less than 1/8 cup dry 3 times per day, 1/2 ? teaspoon or less of wet food 3 times per day with 1/8 chicken broth , 1/8 cup water since ( he is not a drinker) plus the liquid helps him take his powdered milk thistle twice per day. Various more dry pieces for tricks and other pieces of treats ( maybe all dry total 3/8 cup?), some human tidbits, veggies, meat, etc at supper.
He doesn't seem to get much but he is stocky. He is 15+ lbs . Just the way he is. He does not have the whippet body like some ratties.
Eating more smaller meals is better for his liver - although he does get a bit overloaded at night - like we do at supper

Fred doesn't even like to be outside if there is something going on in the kitchen, he feels like he is missing out. Alice could care less, hence she is the skinny one of the house. |

| Mims gets 1/2 cup in the evenings, plus a home made dog biscuit in the mornings. I also give her a small treat when she comes in from doing her thang! She was a bit overweight when we got her and now she has a bit of loose skin around her neck. If I free fed her, she would be a big fat cow! LOL |

My babies... let's see... I feed Eagle Pack Holistic kibble the sardine fishy kind... I feed once in the evenings with a few snacks in the morning to get everybody in their crates...
Snoopy is a slim 18-19 pounds - he gets a cup and a half of food - he seems to have a very high metabolism, although bloodwork comes back OK (no thyroid issues)....
Sandy is 14 pounds and gets a cup or so...
Ben is 20 pounds and gets a cup or a little less...
Kaci is a slim 14-15 pounds and gets about a cup or so...
Prince WAS extremely overweight at 20 pounds, but he just went to the vets yesterday and in the month or so he's been with me, he's lost 3 pounds - looking to lose 1 more... he gets a 3/4 of a cup... once he stablizes, I'll give him a little more to maintain that weight...
Mickey is 11 pounds, but has a very high metabolism... is ALL muscle and a bit thin if you ask me... I feed him a cup + until he gets to where I can't visibly see his ribs, and then I'll cut him down to about 3/4 of a cup |

It all depends on what you're feeding. If you feed Canidae, for example, 3/4 cup (of the All Life Stages) is about 351 calories, which should be enough to sustain about a 20.5 pound dog. It all depends on the number of calories you feed. You need to check the calorie count on the bag. That's why I always feed a higher protein food, because I don't want to feed less of a high carb food and deprive them of the protein that they need.
I've posted it before, but the formula I use is to take the number of pounds you want your dog to be and divide that number by 2.2 . Then multiply that number by 30, and then add 70. That's a rough amount of calories needed to sustain that weight. It's pretty accurate with Lucky, who has had weight problems in the past, but Oscar usually burns more calories being so hyper and small, at 7.5 pounds, so I feed him a little more. As far as the amount of green beans, I cut them up into small pieces and put enough to replace whatever kibble I'm not feeding. |

| I vary how much I feed based on what I'm feeding- just like what Ski commented on. Rowdy is 25lbs and I feed him just over 1c once a day. He also normally gets 1 Merrick beef fillet in the morning and perhaps a couple EVO treats or a couple snappeas or baby carrots. Rowdy eats Orijen 7 Fresh Fish. I used to keep his food down around 1c or slightly less, but he is more active in the spring and summer and was losing weight he didn't need to lose. I prefer to be able to feel his ribs easily but not see their outline all the time. He was starting to show his ribs and backbone, so I've increased the food just a touch. |

My Moose is a puppy, about four months now, and he eats about 1 cup of food a day to day and half, free feed whenever he wants. But seeing that we are home really from 9-3pm he only really dines before 9 and after 3? Sheesh, everyone else's diets seem so complicated. I remember when we had our standard poodle jake, he was 85 pounds, he got a Large "Moe's Burrito" cup of food a day! |
