bryson and braeli are at that age where they are losing teeth and the new ones are growing in. bryson is not have any issues but this morining braeli wouldnt eat!!! this is unuusual for her! she is face in the bowl without a breath until its empty!  we call her piglet and porkchop!but this morning she was very snippy at bryson (feeling bad i guess) and would try to chew 1 piece of kibble and would spit it out. we warmed up chicken broth and soften her food with it and she gobbled it down!

so other than frozen baby carrots, kongs, frozen nylabones, etc... what else can we do to help her? i know when i was a baby my mother would rub brandy on my gums to help soothe pain... would that work?!

any ideas?

I wouldn't give her any alcohol, it's on the list of human foods toxic to dogs. (At least ask the vet first...)
You can give her baby aspirin, check the human medicines ok for dogs post for doseage. For my dogs (10-15 pounds) I give an 81mg baby aspirin.

Don't know of anything else to do, maybe someone else will. Basically, she just needs to get through the teething and then she'll feel better....hope it's soon for both your sakes!

http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_care/protect_your_pet_from_common_household_dangers/foods_potentially_poisonous_to_pets.html

Wine is made from grapes which are toxic.  Caffeine is dangerous to dogs.  I know sometimes people feed these and get away with it but I've heard too many stories of dogs who got very sick from these things....remember too that dogs can get pancreatis from sweet or fatty foods.... This is not to say that rubbing alcohol on her gums would hurt her, I would just check with the vet first.  JMO

Foods Potentially Poisonous to Pets

Some foods that are considered good for people can be very dangerous for pets. The list below highlights some of the most common foods that can be dangerous to animals. This is not an exhaustive list and any decision to provide your pet with food not specifically intended for animals should be discussed with your veterinarian or pet nutritionist. For more information on foods that could be dangerous to pets, visit the American Animal Hospital Association website.

The following foods may be dangerous to your pet:

  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Apple seeds
  • Apricot pits
  • Avocados—toxic to birds, mice, rabbits, horses, cattle and dairy goats
  • Cherry pits
  • Candy (particularly chocolate, which is toxic to dogs, cats and ferrets, and any candy containing the sweetener Xylitol)
  • Coffee (grounds, beans, chocolate covered espresso beans)
  • Grapes
  • Hops (used in home beer brewing)
  • Macadamia nuts
  • Moldy foods
  • Mushroom plants
  • Mustard seeds
  • Onions and onion powder
  • Peach pits
  • Potato leaves and stems (green parts)
  • Raisins
  • Rhubarb leaves
  • Salt
  • Tea (caffeine)
  • Tomato leaves and stems (green parts)
  • Walnuts
  • Yeast dough

This information was compiled from various sources.

i kno3w all about the pancreatis... at 16 yrs old my shih tzu did get that... she survived it... but she also survived 5 heart attacks (2 major herat failures). she is a tough loved baby!!! now hse is blind, deaf and lost her sense of smell... but is still eating, living, pooping and peeing (unfortunately uncontrollably)... she has a cancer growth on the side of her ear now but we cant do anything about it... but she wont quit on us. I LOVE HER!
