So Bob jumped up in my lap when I was at my mom's yesterday. He was standing in my lap, the sun was shining in, and I noticed that his hiney hole was not clean. It wasn't very dirty, just a few little specks of dried poo. I don't know why I thought dogs were self-cleaning, but I never paid much attention to that part of his body before.
So now I feel a compulsion to keep a box of baby wipes by the back door and wipe his little hiney when he comes back inside. Am I overreacting? |

I think it makes perfect sense. After all, you don't want any poo remnants on your furniture, clothes, etc., right? |

| If Taz has "cling-ons" after he goes he freezes still until I wipe him then he's good to go. Always have baby wipes. |

| Bailey does the same thing as Taz, just stands there till I clean her up. She does this alot since her surgery after the dog attack...she had to have all that reconstucted. |

i occasionally wipe his butt if there are "hangers on" (i like the term "cling-ons"!) but it's not necessary too often, and it might make the area sore if done too much i guess. i think they would be "self-cleaning" if they lived in the wild and ate what they evolved to eat (just like their teeth wouldn't need cleaning) but with the food they eat as domestic dogs i think a little wipeage can sometimes be necessary. we used to have an english springer spaniel who had (as my parents called it) a "grass skirt" (i.e., lots of long hair) around his butt. that required a lot of cleaning sometimes. i guess we should be glad ratties are short-haired! |

| I have noticed that Licorice our Lahsa-Apso/Poodle get hangers sometimes. :X It's so nasty. We used to just take a moist paper towel and wipe her butt off, but baby wipes is a good idea! |

He doesn't have danglers hanging on him, just a little fleck or two of dried poo.
Now, cleaning up my old Australian Shepherd who died in 2005 was a big chore. I'd have to get the scissors and cut away hair and poo. I'd buy dollar store scissors and just throw them away afterwards. |

We call them dingle berries too. Danglers are actually more of a nose thing, when a booger is dangling. Sarah, you have little kids so I'm sure you understand this. Bob's bottom is like when a little kid hasn't quite mastered the art of wiping. I wonder if it can irritate his bottom? However, if I start wiping him, my hubby really will act on his threat of sending me to the loony bin.

But the "unwanted matter' is on the skin part around that particular exit, not on the hair. Just a few little crumbs or flakes.
You know, this conversation is turning out to be a great diet aid. I go to lunch in 10 minutes, but I'm no longer hungry.

I've always called 'em dingleberries, too....of course I'm from PA originally and that's next door to NY.
Mayfly had a messy poop last night (perhaps a tad too much yogurt or else it was the asparus she'd had...). We were out walking so as she started off and I saw the messy...I stopped her and used a tissue to wipe her with....man did she suck down that tail nub and squinch her heiny hole shut tight!!

Well hell, that's why poop is brown and pee is yellow....how else do we know the front from the back of our shorts!!!
BTW - if Big Brother were to ever scan this site (you know for "National Security" purposes! ) they would think we were nuts - not dangerous - just nuts!

Did I ever tell you my Zippy poop story? When we first got him we didn't know he loved my...erm...unmetionables. So I do a load of laundry and while folding I notice that a set of turquoise undies is ripped up in the crotch. I told my hubby that somethign was wrong with the washer and we'd have to fix it cuz it was destroying clothes. A few days later I notice turquoise poopies coming out of Zip. Yes, you guessed who the panty destroyer was. Needless to say none of the dogs has access to our laundry baskets now. I love the baby wipe idea. I've always used a damp paper towel for same but the wipes would be softer. |
